iTunes Editors’ Notes

Twelve years after their landmark debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights, NYC’s Interpol crafted their next potential career-defining moment with their fifth album, 2014’s El Pintor. It's their first without founding bassist Carlos Dengler; frontman Paul Banks takes over his duties. This album contains some of the best songs since Interpol's debut. “All the Rage Back Home” slips into Interpol gear, with all their bright electronics guiding them, while “My Desire” follows with sounds that emerge and transform before our ears mid-verse. Banks takes his basswork seriously and drives “Anywhere” to dramatic heights along with guitarist Daniel Kessler, who works overtime coloring in the sounds here and everywhere. “Same Town, New Story” and “My Blue Supreme” cap what would have been the perfect album side in the LP age. If you consider “Everything Is Wrong” the start of the album’s second liftoff, the band again make it into space in good standing.

Customer Reviews

Interpol is back

Ive heard little snip its of this new album and its got a new sound. More mellow but still interpol! I can not express my excitement for this

Too early to tell but...

This album sounds great so far! They have teased anywhere, all the rage back home, and my desire at concerts and recently released a video of them playing anywhere at a show. I suggest watching it (it's linked to twitter). They are currently playing a lot of antics and totbl and from the teasers it seems like a great mix of them. Their website interpolnyc has a teaser video with small clips from their new album and I highly suggest it. And by the way, paul is playing bass on this album!

Now I know why

Ive seen Paul Banks smiling a lot lately..he's just made easily one my favorite Interpol albums, in league with TOTBL dare I say. Just amazing, one of their best in a long time and I've enjoyed all of them. Definately worth checking out.

Biography

Formed: 1998 in New York, NY

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

One of the leading post-punk revivalists of the 2000s and 2010s, Interpol took their cues from Joy Division and the Chameleons, fashioning a darkly atmospheric sound helmed by intricate guitars and Paul Banks' somber baritone. The group also had a striking visual presence marked by the members' fondness for suits, which only strengthened their stately, British-influenced appeal. Nevertheless, the band remained rooted in America, where guitarist Daniel Kessler and drummer Greg Drudy first struck up...
