iTunes Review

Timbaland’s star making productions for the likes of R&B artists like Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake, and Ginuwine have done much to define the sound of popular music over the past decade. Though contemporaries like The Neptunes and Lil Jon rival him in popularity, few producers have been able to blend hardcore dance floor appeal and challenging experimentalism with the skill and avidity of Timbaland. 2006 was something of a banner year for him, and the colossal success of Timberlake’s SexyBack and Nelly Furtado’s Loose raised anticipation for Shock Value to a fever pitch. Though some critics have expressed disappointment with Shock Value’s overwhelming eclecticism, foolhardy ambition has always been one of Timbaland’s saving graces. Who but Timbaland could conceive of the twisted Medtronic meet Miami Bass stomp of “Bounce” or the exhilarating, if possibly sacrilegious, take on Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman” that is “Oh Timbaland”? If Shock Value suffers from some poor decision making (see Fall Out Boy’s cringe inducing contribution to One and Only) the album contains more than enough redeeming moments to make it a worthy entry into Timbaland’s catalogue.

A really great album (sorry for the long review)

What would you expect from a producer that delivers good number of the #1 hits out there? This album is a bag of mixed tricks. Something for everyone and a whole bunch of songs that could be singles or top of the charts. Here are some of my fav: - Give it to me (great beats) - Throw It On Me (club song, fast beats could have been a lot better if it was bit longer and had missy on it instead of her being wasted on Bounce. This song matches her energy better.) - The Way I Are (Very catchy and addictive beats another top of the charts song) - Time (Excellent and different, good mix of rockish sound with good beats. She Wants Revenge is awesome and sounds great on this song.) - Boardmeeting (Another song with a lot of great beats.) - Release (This actually sounds like a song that should be on JT's album but since Timbaland produced that too guess it doesn't matter which album it’s on.) - Bombay (I love the sound of this, very exotic sounding.) - Apologize (A great balladic pop song definitely see it being on so you think you can dance.) - 2 Man Show (I really liked this song the mix of the piano was awesome. But I wish Elton actually sang on this. I wanted to hear him sing especially right after the chorus rather than Timbaland singing don’t it sound good to yaa, etc.. .) - One and Only (This is sure to please Fall Out Boy fans. Good blend of their music with Timbaland’s beats.) I already listed 10 songs I liked so the price of $9.99 already paid for itself. The album is really good but could have been even better if 50 Cent, Missy, and Dr Dre. were used in songs that used their talents. I found Bounce to be too much of repetitive beat and Missy and Dr. Dre were wasted in that song. And 50 Cent in Come and Get Me is ever so forgetful song. But overall a great album by Timbaland and just reconfirms that he is one of the greatest producers out there. Loved it and recommend it to everyone.

Not a perfect but overall great album.

Timbaland's "Shock Factor" while not perfect is far better then his previous album and has many songs that I liked alot. 1.Oh Timbaland (3/5) Not a bad intro but it did not really stand out for me. Its decent. 2. Give It to Me (5/5) First single. Very catchy and Nelly F and Justin work great in the song. 3. Release (4.5/5) Could be the next single. Great beat. 4. The Way I Are (3.5/5) Not one of my favorites but not bad. Its very short. 5 Bounce (5/5) This is one of my favorites. The beat is crazy and unique and Missy Elliot is perfect for this song. Highly Reccomended. 6. Come and Get Me (4/5) Pritty good song with a nice apperance by 50 cent. 7. Kill Yourself (2/5) Not his best work. This song is strange and the chorus is pritty bad. 8. Boardmeeting (3/5) Way too short and not the great to begin with. Album stuffer. 9. Fantasy (4/5) A good song. Very smooth and stands out on the CD. 10. Scream (4/5) Another good song tho the ending is alittle too drawn out. 11. Miscommunication (4/5) Reminds me of fantasy and also works very well. 12. Bombay (4/5) Very interesting song. Probley would have worked better if it was longer. 13.Throw It On Me (3.5/5) Good song if you feel like going crazy. Probley alittle too fast for its own good. 14. Time (5/5) I love this song. It is competely diffrent from most of the other songs on the album. The chorus is very diffrent and some people probley won't like it but I liked it alot. 15. One and Only (5/5) Great, great song that you will love if you like Fall Out Boy. It would make an awsome single. 16. Apologize (5/5) This song seems very strange on the album because Timbaland is hardly even in the song. Its still a great ballad and one of the best songs even with him not in it. :P 17. 2 Man Show (4/5) A cool track that probley gives the shock factor the best because he did it with Elton John. Its a good note to end the CD on.

Biography

Born: March 10, 1971 in Norfolk, VA

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Timbaland ascended to the top of the pop industry in the late '90s, impressively balancing his in-demand hitmaking abilities with his outlandish production style. Few rap producers were capable of such a balance between commerce and craft. Timbaland produced an endless list of hits, primarily for a select group of affiliates (Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Jay-Z, Ginuwine) though also for a number of other A-list artists (Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Justin Timberlake). Even so, he always infused a remarkable...
