Album Review

First released on LP in 1980, this compilation concentrates upon bite-sized samples from Vince Guaraldi's Fantasy catalog. Naturally, Fantasy includes famous tunes like "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" and "Linus and Lucy," but there are also some superb sleepers ("Star Song," Jobim's "Outra Vez") that display Guaraldi's wonderful melodic gift, and the sessions with Bola Sete are touched upon. As a chronicle of Guaraldi's Fantasy days, the set is somewhat incomplete, for it leaves out all material recorded prior to "Cast Your Fate" and Guaraldi isn't given much of a chance to stretch out. But this is definitely the place to start for someone who has not heard this whimsically inventive pianist. ~ Richard S. Ginell, Rovi

Vince Guaraldi + the "Peanuts" Connection

I can only sigh in pleasure as I float through Vince's extraordinary musical gifts to all of us, (on i-tunes), and sadly regret a talent, his, lost so young. I don't pass a holiday without some radio or TV rendition of his well-known "Linus & Lucy" instrumental, or mildly vocal "Christmas Time is Here." And few know, as I do (a former childhood "voice" of one 'Patty" character or another...) how seemingly routine, but ultimately profound Guaraldi's musical gifts would be. Then and now. With all appreciation to cartoonist and creator, Charles Shultz, Guaraldi's talents transformed a "cute" but otherwise simple animated holiday story to the status of holiday classic. Music made the difference! Even today - some 40 years later - to listen to Guaraldi feels timeless and original. A slice of mid-1960's enterainment, rendered timeless in his skilled hands. We miss you, Vince, With appreciation, Lisa

Warm, technical jazz (memories of youth and spring)

Great technical jazz with many layers. Reminds me of my youth. And spring.

Cast Your Fate To The Wind

How Great it is to hear these songs again. Great job, love the music!

Vince Guaraldi was a well-respected jazz pianist whose greatest success came from avenues usually closed to contemporary jazz artists: he enjoyed a hit single at a time when jazz had largely been exiled from the pop charts, and he scored a series of very successful animated television specials, a medium where cookie-cutter pop music was traditionally the order of the day. Vincent Anthony Guaraldi was born in San Francisco, California on July 17, 1928. A loyal son of the Bay Area, Guaraldi graduated...
