Richard D. James has always excelled at either cloaking listeners in warm-blanket ambiance or clobbering them with manic dance music. These lost vinyl pressings of pre-Aphex Twin tracks are a decade old, yet they still sound beamed from another plane — a sinister place where a kid complains about mashed potatoes and is slapped by dad’s drum & bass record collection, where a desperate housewife imitates her husband ("get me another tea/ get me another shirt/ ev-er-y day") to the tune of crisscrossing melodic synth lines. Highly experimental and wholly accessible — in other words, absolutely recommended.

Amazing
I remember when i found this CD. I was in a Washington DC mall, and feeling pretty sick of where current techno and trance music was going. I saw a Suncoast record store that was going out of business and was selling all CDs 80 % off. I must have spent at least 2 hours combing through tons of crappy albums. Eventually, it was getting late, and i felt like i needed to buy something quick. I saw this CD in the back and on a wild impulse picked it up and bought it for $2. Not only did it rekindle my love for electronica, it changed the way i viewed it. I almost immediately bought the Windowlicker single by Aphex Twin (another Richard D James alias) and Tri Repatae by Autechre. This is the quintessential drill n bass album, not to mention a great introduction to Aphex Twin and similar artists. If you are into IDM, this is a must have.

This is truly the album that started it all for "drill-and-bass" style IDM. This is an absolute must. Buy now.

Yes, another wonderful set of sounds, now in digital form on iTunes. But please, where are all the other albums once offered on iTunes? Chosen Lords has disappeared, unmistakably one of his greatest compilations of songs cut from analords. The Tuss's confederation trough ep has strangely been taken off iTunes much to the dismay of music listeners everywhere. Something is clearly up and until the world unites with a voice to reclaim these forgotton gems, infants the world over will die from diseases associated with the loss of this fine earful.
