Editors’ Notes

In guitarist Chris Broderick, Dave Mustaine has finally found an adequate replacement for Marty Friedman, the legendary axeman who helped lead Megadeth in its glory years. The searing chemistry between Mustaine and Broderick is what incites Endgame and puts Megadeth’s 12th album alongside the band’s best work. There are great grooves on “Bite the Hand” (a Bush administration indictment) and “Bodies,” but nothing matches the supercharged blitzkrieg of the title track, “Head Crusher,” and “This Day We Fight!,” songs that seem bound to make Endgame the best metal guitar album of 2009. “How the Story Ends” explodes in an angry gallop, a song that is as intensely rhythmic as it is blisteringly accurate. With its galloping rhythm and dueling guitar “Dialetic Chaos” is an instant metal anthem. Mustaine never lost his passion or ferocity — and now he's put together a band that can match his energy. Old-school Megadeth fans will not be disappointed.

Customer Reviews

A MUST HAVE!!! (even if you are not a Megadeth fan, which is blasphemy!)

Yet again, I am amazed by Dave Mustaine's genius... Endgame is one of my favorites from the great Megadeth, coming in at numbah 4 tied with the 2007 masterpiece, United Abominations. The only albums i would say are better than this are: 1. Rust in Peace, 2. Killing is my business... and business is good!, 3. Peace Sells... But who's buying? I would go on, but would rather get down to the new work, Endgame... I give it an 11/10, because of the way Mustaine combines the new and old to make something amazing. Definitely the shining album of this year! A MUST BUY!

Their Best Work

This album has it all. Amazing solos, amazing lyrics, amazing drumming, and pretty much everything you could ask for.

Wooo... Never saw this return to old school thrash awesomeness coming!!!

I admit to being a Megadeth fan since 1987, and the recent efforts were loved because of fond memories of Peace Sells, Rust, and So Far... I bought this like I buy every Megadeth album, but one listen driving into work this morning and I was frickin grinning from ear to ear - Dave has really returned to old school form. To me, this album is like a winning lotto ticket - I hoped it would be awesome but expected less. I would say its perfect blend of So Far... (compare Dialectic Choas to Into Lungs of Hell - like fricking awesome stripper twin sisters.. both hot as hell and worthy of drool) and Rust.. seriously... a sick surprising return to form and I am the winner here. Get it. Now.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

After he left Metallica in 1983, guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine formed the thrash metal quartet Megadeth. Though Megadeth followed the basic blueprint of Metallica's relentless attack, Mustaine's group distinguished themselves from his earlier band by lessening the progressive rock influences, adding an emphasis on instrumental skills, speeding up the tempo slightly, and making the instrumental attack harsher. By streamlining the classic thrash metal approach and making the music more threatening,...
