iTunes Review

Making the transition from teen pop star to mature artist can be difficult — just ask Tiffany, Jessica Andrews or Lila McCann. Judging by Fearless, Taylor Swift is making the shift with commendable grace. Unlike other adolescent hit-makers, she laid the groundwork for her creative growth by asserting her songwriting skills early. As a result, Fearless’ tunes (all written or co-written by Swift) have far more sparkle and substance than most country/pop offerings these days. The songs here have the authentic ring of teenage angst and delight, with the emphasis on the travails of young love. Backed by chiming guitars and a buoyant pop backbeat, Swift sails through “Fearless,” “Hey Stephen,” and “You Belong With Me” with seeming boundless joy. Her happy moments are made all the more believable by such thoughtful tunes as “Fifteen” (a knowing glance back at high school) and “White Horse” (a snapshot of lost innocence). Swift is equally capable of tender invocations of childhood (“The Best Day”) and bittersweet breakup songs (“Breathe”). She's more than beaten the sophomore jinx with this outstanding release. If Fearless is any indication, fans will be following her musical evolution for years to come.

Customer Reviews

Great job Taylor!

Taylor's new album is great! Here's my track by track review! 1) Fearless 9/10 Awesome song! The chorus is amazing and it stays in your head. My favourite line: And I don't know why but with you I'd dance, in a storm in my best dress fearless. 2) Fifteen 7/10 All about Taylor's first day. She goes to school and meets her new best friend, checks out the senior guy and basically writes about everything you feel and think when you're 15. Very cute. 3) Love Story 10/10 Her second single, very fairytale-ish, check out the music video. We wish Romeo and Juliet had such a happy ending. 4) Hey Stephen 8/10 Taylor writes about her crush on this guy called Stephen. It's very very sweet and cute. 5) White Horse 9/10 A slower song that's sorta opposite Love Story. It's about Taylor waking up and realizing that not all fairytales come true. 6) You Belong With Me 9/10 A very well written song, I love the lyrics. It's basically Taylor telling this guy that she's so much better for him than the girl he's going out with. Really fun. 7) Breathe 10/10 I can relate to this song so much and I've lost count of the number of times I've played it. Great lyrics, great tune and oh did I mention it features Colbie Caillat? 8) Tell Me Why 8/10 Taylor asking a guy why he's so mean to her. Very fast paced and fierce. You'll have to hear it to get it. 9) You're Not Sorry 10/10 LOVELY. I think she wrote a song called "You Don't Have To" and it covers the exact same topics in this song. So now I highly doubt that "You Don't Have To" would be released officially. Sad, I really liked it but this song is great too. 10) The Way I Loved You 9/10 Ahh...interesting. She describes this perfect guy and we assume that she's written this song for him. But in the chorus she talks to another one and claims that she loves him more. 11) Forever and Always 8/10 Another good song. (Duh, it's Taylor) It is Taylor reminding a guy about his promise to her, (FOREVER and ALWAYS). It's good but blends in with her other songs. 12) The Best Day 7/10 A song from Taylor to her mom. It's very sweet and not many girls have this sort of a relationship with their parents anymore. 13) Change 8/10 Her first single and a great way to end an album! Overall, Taylor did a fantastic job! I definitely think this is just as good as her first one, if not better. I can't wait to see what she releases next!

A lot of artists don't, but she gets it.

I remember reading in a magazine about this country girl who had ambitions of being a superstar. at only 14 years of age, i didn't think much about it. 4 years later and taylor swift is on top of the country world. for one, she's beautiful. great personality. she can write beatiful songs, she plays guitar. what more can you ask for? she's the total package and she has "it". she appeals to everyone, from little girls, to single moms, from high school boys to grown men. by the time she's done, she will be a legend and i'm glad to be living in the taylor swift era. a great second album with many more to come. if you had to put your money on one artist today to continue the success of country, i'd put mine on taylor swift.

The Best Country Artist

Taylor Swift is a legend, and this is one of the best albums of 2008.

Biography

Born: December 13, 1989 in Wyomissing, PA

Genre: Country

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Taylor Swift is that rarest of pop phenomenona: a superstar who managed to completely cross over from country to the mainstream. Other singers performed similar moves — notably, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson both became enduring mainstream icons based on their '70s work — but Swift shed her country roots like they were a second skin; it was a necessary molting to reveal she was perhaps the sharpest, savviest, populist singer/songwriter of her generation, one who could harness the zeitgeist...
