Album Review

Though a little rough in the production department, Flotsam & Jetsam's first album, Doomsday for the Deceiver, attempts both short bursts of thrashing intensity ("Desecrator," "Iron Tears") as well as extended, multi-part epics ("Metalshock" and the title track). Bassist and lyricist Jason Newsted occasionally attempts to squeeze too many words into some songs, but also displays a refreshing sense of humor (a rarity in this genre) on "Hammerhead" and "She Took an Axe." "U.S.L.W." is rather good but the nine-minute-plus title track is the best cut on the album, largely due to guitarist Michael Gilbert's very tasteful acoustic guitar intro. Overall, this is an important record for fans of early thrash metal.

Your In NO position to be criticizing this, Because Christian Rock is for Wusses, and this Album was made before Neopets existed. You Only Think its Weird Because You Didn't listen to the music. If you Want Weird look up a guy named William Hung

One of the best thrash albums of all time

1986 was a great year for thrash. Master Of Puppets, Peace Sells, and Reign In Blood were masterpieces all unleashed upon the metal scene. But wait, who is this?

That's right, Flotsam & Jetsam bust down the doors and coming flying out with one heck of a debut album. There is no filler whatsoever on this album, just pure metal. With shredding guitars, pounding drums & relentless basslines, topped off with glass-shattering shrieks and top-notched singing by Eric AK, what's not to love?

The first review is an Idiot

This album might possible be Flotsams best work to date. It spawned Jason Newstead when he had a grip on the writing and recording of the music. If you like Metal, but this album.

Flotsam and Jetsam initially showed a lot of promise within thrash metal circles and, though they've continued to record over the past 15 years, their talent and professionalism never quite translated into significant sales or mainstream recognition. Formed in Arizona by vocalist Eric A. K., guitarists Michael Gilbert and Edward Carlson, bassist Jason Newsted, and drummer Kelly David-Smith, Flotsam and Jetsam were part of the second wave of thrash bands. After signing with Metal Blade Records, they...
