Album Review

Ever since Killswitch Engage lead vocalist Howard Jones began alternating his sung voice with his screamed one, the band's depth and dimension grew exponentially. There's plenty of brutal, pummeling death metal, blastbeats and the like, but there is texture in the attack too. This is a band who has been consistent in their approach, and in delivering the goods, but As Daylight Dies is perhaps their strongest moment so far. The songs are dynamite: check the combination of texture, riffs and melody in "This Is Absolution"; by the time they get to the chorus, it's all over; an anthem. The unbridled chaos of "Unbroken" reveals that they haven't traveled far from their roots; in fact, they've dug deeper, if that's possible, despite becoming better musicians. "Eye of the Storm" is just over the top. This is the sound of both the Apocalypse and the Second Coming rolled into one. The tight, turn on a dime stops and starts in the verse and the all-out roar of the refrains and the guitar break are the stuff of heavy metal legend. If the cynics don't get it by now, they never will. For the rest, this is the album to come into the tent with. Mastodon may have convinced just about everyone with Blood Mountain, but this is a Top Five metal candidate of 2006 for sure. [The 2007 edition included bonus tracks.]

A must buy

I'm not a big fan of hardcore and screaming, but KSE is an exception for me. I love this band. They are unique and always hard-rocking, and their songs don't all sound the same (it's difficult for a hardcore band to have plenty of variety). If you haven't purchased the older version of As Daylight Dies, you'll have to buy this one. Key songs on here are My Curse, The Arms Of Sorrow, Daylight Dies, and This Is Absolution. But now with the four new songs on the new version of the cd, there's even more to be excited about. Although Holy Diver and This Fire aren't exactly new songs (they are only new to iTunes), you now have access to these songs on iTunes. And you NEED to buy them! I mean, Holy Diver is the top song (at the moment) for crying out loud! By the way, Holy Diver is probably the greatest cover song I've ever heard (with a pretty cool music video to go with it). Like I said before, this is a must buy. So BUY IT!! BTW, to the person that asked what a "Holy Diver" really is, you'll probably have to go ask Ronnie James Dio himself, cuz I have no clue what that is. But it's still an awesome song!

Killer Music

Easily one of the best metalcore albums on the shelves today. The instrumentation is excellent, Jones continues to astoud with his vocals, and the cover of Dio's 'Holy Diver' is just as good as the original. Standout tracks are 'My Curse', 'Holy Diver', and 'Daylight Dies'.

speechless

i wish i could give KSE 10000000 stars. KSE is the best band evr, no doubt about it. All of there albums are amazing and its obvious that a lot of time was put into each album. if youre a KSE fan u must buy all there albums------ u wont regret it. (personally this album is my favorite)

The four bandmembers who came together and created Killswitch Engage already had strong fan followings. Mike D'Antonio (bass) was formerly the leader and principal songwriter of Overcast, the legendary underground metal group. When Overcast split in 1998, D'Antonio sought for a year to find the right combination of players to fuse hardcore and metal with melody. During the summer of 1999, D'Antonio connected with Adam Dutkiewicz, who was the drummer for Aftershock, and Joel...
