Album Review

Following the breakup of the trip-hop group Sneaker Pimps, guitarist Chris Corner went on to make solo material under the name IAMX. For his fifth outing, Unified Field, beats are still the cornerstone of his songs, but he branches out with lush, idiosyncratic Brit-pop instrumentation. His voice alternates between angelic cabaret crooning and alt-rock howling, and has a Jeff Buckley quality about it that can be polarizing, but the complex production and songwriting are very impressive throughout.

Customer Reviews

Honestly...

this album sounds so much more promising than the last... finally! I have adored & respected IAMX from the start and for the exception of 1 or 2 songs, Volatile Times was truly lost on me. Maybe it was me? I dunno, but The Unified Field is sounding very promising. XoX

Maturity

The sound and lyrics have definitely evolved from his last albums. There's still a lot of darkness here, but from a more mindful place. It all sounds less emo and teenagery, like someone who's darkness has had time to simmer.

Love it

Very happy!!! I do wish he would release an acoustic album! I could listen to just his vocal tracks and be happy. He has the most beautiful voice!

His first full-length as IAMX, Kiss & Swallow, was released on Recall in 2004; the sophomore IAMX album, The...
