Jana Kramer moves from TV stardom into the country music world with confidence and style on her self-titled debut album. Her featured roles on Friday Night Lights, Entourage, and especially One Tree Hill helped boost her first single, “Why Ya Wanna,” onto the charts. But Kramer does much more here than cash in on her small-screen fame. Under the guidance of veteran producer Scott Hendricks (Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn), she applies her strong vocal presence to a batch of songs with the savor of authentic country. Kramer projects both vulnerability and resilience on tracks like the erotically charged “Whiskey” and the emotionally complex “Good as You Were Bad.” She brings a smart, sassy attitude to uptempo songs like “King of Apologies” (a kiss-off tune set to a clap-along groove) and “One of the Boys” (a tomboy-style party number with Shania Twain overtones). Hendricks’ production veers with ease from the swampy rhythm of “What I Love About Your Love” to the bubbly country-pop of “Goodbye California” and the moody balladry of “When You’re Lonely."
