Editors’ Notes
Television broke her career — Ingrid Michaelson songs first appeared on One Tree Hill, Grey’s Anatomy and an Old Navy commercial — but her fourth studio album sounds groomed for radio and anyone who's ever leaped before looking will identify with the powerfully emotional opener “Soldier.” Michaelson says this album is more autobiographical than her others, and she recorded a voluminous 40 songs before selecting the 12 that comprise Everybody. Touring with Jason Mraz may have seeped into her songwriting subconscious because the breezy title track sounds like it was written for him to cover — it floats and bobs like a cork on the ocean with ukulele strumming over a catchy singalong chorus. “The Chain” begins like one of her familiar piano ballads before beautiful layers of vocal rounds and dynamically stacked instruments swell up to birth a three-minute epic. Though “Maybe” is the obvious hit, “Mountain and the Sea” is more endearing and crush-worthy with its flirty lyrics, layered handclaps and analog synthesizers.
Customer Reviews
Wow
Wow, ingrid michaelson has done it again. This new album is absolutely stunning, her lyrics are still as clever and as catchy and as meaningful as they ever were in her pervious albums. Her skill with words, especially in her verses. If your're just getting into INgrid then i would suggest you buy some songs from her pervious albums as well (from Be Ok: You and I and Oh What A Day are my favorites, from Boys and Girls: Breakabe and Starting Now). But heres an over view of the songs in this album Soldier: 4/5, not my favoirte tune but catchy and clever none the less Everybody: 3/5, one of the weakest songs in the bunch Are We There Yet, 4.5/5 an amazing song, the lyrics and the intrumnetals are stunning and mind blowingly clever, id recommned it Sort Of, 5/5 one of my favorites, but maybe only because of the subject matter. But i love the sound of it and the strings on the back ground INcredible Love, 4/5 a dffierent tone from what Ingrid usually does, more jazzy but i like it, its very good and different The Chain, 5/5 my FAVORITE song on this entire album, a relatively short song but with a majestic climax in the end, beautiful is the only word for it Mountain and the Sea, 4/5 a littlbe bit more upbeat than the other songs, i love the images she bring up in this Men of Snow, 3.5/5 i haven't a a good chance to listen to this one yet, its good but not my favorite So Long, 5/5, another one of my favorites, maybe a lot for the subject matter and also for the lyrics ("You've made me into someone who should not hold a loaded gun, and now you sit upon my chest, knock out my wind, knock out my best") Once Was Love, 4/5, as good solid song about how poeple stick around in a relationship even though the love is gone Locked up, 4.5/5 a great song about someone who has locked themselves away from love, very good Maybe, 3/5, one of my least favorites, a little repetitive, So the ones that i would recommend you buy if you're not buying the whole album (which you should!!!!) would be: Are We There Yet, Sort Of, The Chain (if you're only buying one it should be this), and So Long
Not her best, but still good
If you are an Ingrid fan (and I am), you will most likely enjoy this new album. If you like Ingrid's style of writing lyrics, you will not be disappointed by the lyrics on "Everybody." My biggest qualm with this album is that it sounds very generic. While her lyrics are true to her older stuff, the sound of the songs is very radio friendly and just not typical of what you'd normally expect from Ingrid. Her quirkiness just isn't there. While she probably just opened herself up to a whole new world of fans, if I hadn't been a fan prior to this album, I wouldn't buy it or be at all "wowed" by it.
INGRID IS SO FANTASTIC!!
this album is nothing short of perfection. i love her voice. i love her lyrics. i love her face. i love ingrid!!!
