Editors’ Notes
Buffalo Springfield recorded just three studio albums in their short, volatile life, but this late-‘60s combo introduced the world to Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Poco’s Richard Furay, and helped plant the seeds for future country-rock and ‘70s folk-based expression. (The Eagles owe a great debt.) The band’s great diversity in both songwriting and performance made it one of the era’s finest, immediately scoring with Stills’ “For What It’s Worth,” a song that virtually defined the paranoia of the Vietnam era in America with its haunting, trembling guitar work and its suggestion that if you “step out of line, the man comes and takes you away.” The band could also be heartbreakingly romantic with Furay’s “Kind Woman,” cryptically psychedelic with Young’s “Mr. Soul,” “Broken Arrow” and “Expecting to Fly,” but still keep its pop head (“Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing,” “Sit Down I Think I Love You”) and deliver illustrative instrumental work (“Bluebird”). This Retrospective offers a brief, broad view of the band’s accomplishments. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself soon doing further research.

Sums it Up
This band was one of the first "supergroups", and this album wraps up their short flight with twelve of their best. Still, to hear the contributions of Richie Furay and Jim Messina, listen to the other THREE albums. I had them all on vinyl in the early '70's, and I hope ITunes offers the second, ("Buffalo Springfield Again") sometime. Great to revisit these guys!
Not well known musical genius
This band is one of the true gems of the 1960's. i love all music and grew up with my father playing cd's of neil young and this group. Now of course most people know of the hit "For What its worth" but every song on this album is brilliant in its own way. If you are into this era of music then i say u must own this album and when u listen to it, listen to it all the way through and listen to it with a clear and open mind ready to absorb it and just let the music take you away. I have this album in vinyl and play it steadily on my turntable at least once a week.
P.S. Itunes, you need to change the release date of this, it came out in 1969. Buffalo Springfield's debut album came out in 66, virtually impossible for some of these songs to be on this record if it came out in 66
for what it's worth...it's worth more
much better than just that one song...listen to the whole thing...sit down i think i love you, bluebird...ect....for what it's worth...yeah it's worth the 10 bucks
