Editors’ Notes

James Blake's second studio album, Overgrown, is a hypnotizing foray from an artist whose influences have grown from the subtle, futuristic textures of his eponymous 2011 debut to embrace everything from gospel choirs to post-dubstep. On Overgrown, Blake further expands his omnivorous influences and yields eclectic results—from a hip-hop track featuring RZA ("Take a Fall for Me") to a piano ballad that foregoes synths and electronics entirely ("Dlm"). Overgrown is challenging but accessible, confidently pacing through a multifaceted garden blooming with complex electronic layers, styles, and emotions.

Customer Reviews

Just Wonderful

Just Wonderful is the best way to sum up James Blake new album. I loved everything about it from the "Retrograde" to "Digital Lion" but the whole piece is solid work. I am also lovin Buddy Mix ablum "Of The Apple". His style is James Blake meets Bowie. I recommend you search for it here on itunes and take a listen to it as well. Solid Electronic work. But James work is just brilliant!

Most likely the best thing you will hear this year.

Yeah, it's worth the hype. Buy it. Not here though. "When you buy an album on iTunes you're renting music rather than buying it; you're getting the equivalent of an IOU." Support your local record store. The music industry is failing. Help preserve it. "The ship isn't just going down. There are people trapped inside, bashing on the windows trying to get out."

Epic

Yea this ish isn't even out yet, but it's safe to say that anything James Blake does is golden

Blake received quite the endorsement when the heralded Soul Jazz label picked the track up for their Steppas' Delight 2 compilation that same year. Blake raised his profile every few months during 2010 — something of...
