Editors’ Notes

The title acknowledges Olly Murs’ undeniable good fortune at parlaying a second-place finish on The X Factor into pop-star success. But Right Place Right Time does more than ride the lucky streak that this brash-but-lovable British singer has been on for the past four years. Murs enlists such production notables as Claude Kelly, Steve Robson, Andrew Frampton, and Future Cut for this project to achieve a buoyant sound that fuses dance-pop with classic balladry. The album's romantic mood remains consistent, whether Olly is pining over lost love (“Dear Darlin’”), surrendering to a new crush (“Runaway”), or wistfully recalling a fleeting affair (“Perfect Night”). Murs’ trademark cheekiness mellows into warm, self-knowing humor on the charming first-date snapshot “What a Buzz.” The funkified sass of “Troublemaker” (featuring rapper Flo Rida) finds balance in the orchestral tempos of “Loud & Clear” and “Army of Two.” Murs’ clear-toned, supple vocals keep the mood earnest yet playful, sustaining his nice-guy persona even when he’s telling off an ex (as in “Cry Your Heart Out”).

What happened to ICYDK?

I know this is gonna be amazing, Olly! Mostly because I know all of the songs, and I'm sad that all your albums aren't out in the U.S. I was wondering what happened to In Case You Didn't Know… And why isn't Thinking Of Me on here? Oh well. Olly's a great singer with amazing music that will stay stuck in your head all day. His songs are so catchy, and sort of retro like!

Olly

Thank god! For those of you wondering about ICYDK, he told my friends who went to a private show that he decided against releasing in the US since he is releasing this album worldwide. His words, not mine, don't shoot the messenger.

So thank goodness this album is finally coming out! America gets something from him for once. I'm sure it's going to be fab.

Uk songs

I'm so excited that it is finally coming out in the us but what about thinking of me or this song is about you? I love those songs!

Years Active: '00s, '10s

With a "cheeky chappy" persona to match Robbie Williams and vocals reminiscent of original Pop Idol Will Young, former call-center worker Olly Murs was one of the success stories of the 2009 season of The X Factor, finishing runner-up to Joe McElderry in the hotly contested final. Born in Essex in 1984, Murs showed little interest in singing while at school, focusing his attention on football, where he played for the school team and later semi-professionally for local non-league team Witham Town....
