Alongside the Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads, Television was among the first generation of mid-‘70s New York punks. Predating the U.K. scene's mohawks and spiked leather jackets, the Americans were less focused on appearance and more concerned with carving out new sounds distinct from the overblown arena rock of the day. Over the eight songs that comprise its classic 1977 debut, bandleader Tom Verlaine lays out a fully-formed aesthetic that is astonishingly mature for a first album. His vocals are half-sung, half-spit over stunningly lovely twin guitar interplay provided by him and Television's other secret weapon, Richard Lloyd. The rollicking guitar party of "See No Evil" sets an upbeat tone for the album, whose other highlights include "Guiding Light” and the title track's inescapably catchy riff, which is repeated the length of the ten-minute song without ever growing tiresome.

Marquee Moon--One of the top 20 albums EVER
This record is one of those rare, once every decade or so, perfect albums. Great, funny lyrics, great pop hooks and guitar work like nothing you ever heard. I can't recommend this record enough
Simply stellar.
It's hard to describe this album in words, it has to be listened to. But I can say that I downloaded this one day based mainly on an online friend's recommendation, so I didn't really know what to expect. But it stunned me by the consistent excellence of every single track, and it quickly rocketed into my top 10 albums of all time. Expect alternatingly beautiful and jerking layered guitars topped by Tom Verlaine's sneering but earnest voice, literate and thoughtful lyrics, and long songs that don't seem long at all. It's called a punk album, but this proved that the genre was not to be underestimated as a true art form, and the bands who dare to call themselves punk nowadays could learn a thing or two from Television. You will not regret downloading this.
I am the Marquee Moon
Television's "Marquee Moon" is in my opinion the greatest guitar rock album of all time. It took what punk would turn out to be and made into a shot of new wave, rock and jazz. Tom Verlaine composing the songs with a serious attitude, Richard Lloyd jamming at light speed, Fred Smith jazzing up his bass structure and Billy Ficca pounding at the drums as if he was running for his life. Marquee Moon is simply put, the must own album for "guitar god" lovers. It transcends you into a world of innocence, pain, beauty and love. And that is why Marquee Moon should be on everyone's list of favorite albums.
