Editors’ Notes

After Adam Levine put his indie band Kara’s Flowers to bed, he assembled and recorded Maroon 5’s debut album, Songs About Jane. The opening “Harder to Breathe” grooved on a funky rock foundation, with Levine hitting high tenor notes and sounding like he'd attended a good number of Jamiroquai concerts. The following “This Love” is just as catchy, with dialed-down guitars and an octane boost to the band’s funk engine. “She Will Be Loved” simmers down for a beachy serenade before the strolling “Sunday Morning” braids Levine’s love for Jay Kay and Stevie Wonder with some Philly-flavored blue-eyed soul.

Customer Reviews

Where did all the reviews go?

I remember hearing these songs on the radio in 2002. Back when artists still played real instruments instead of pressing buttons like they do now. Music had soul and emotion. It's all industry-produced fake plastic pop.

Maroon 5 used to be one of my favorite bands before they became a typical pop band. 'Songs about Jane' is one of the best albums of the early '00s in my opinion. Kids, listen to what was once a great (pop)rock band.

reminiscing...

please come back to this

I grew up listening to maroon 5, and I wish they would make an album similar to this style & tone. they've become to mainstream. love them and they can do whatever style they like; but I miss "songs about Jane" :/

The record tanked,...
