Editors’ Notes

While Like A Virgin established Madonna as an ‘80s MTV icon, True Blue, her third album, ensured she was no flash in the pan. Bad movies would jeopardize her star-power some, but the dancefloor was always Madonna’s refuge and her image was always up for changing. This time it’s thick eyebrows and short, smart blonde locks. Still, a dancefloor diva is still not necessarily a worldwide superstar, and True Blue works with greater ambition. The dance grooves are meatier. “Open Your Heart” is unstoppable and immediate. “La Isla Bonita” tweaks a Latin rhythm. “Where’s the Party” plays up a carefree hedonist rave. But “Live to Tell” is the ballad open for contemplation and in search of beauty. “Papa Don’t Preach” is the controversial “keepin’ my baby” story-song of a young teen in conflict with parental authority, while “True Blue” pays homage to tough ‘60s girl groups. For someone well-known for her image, Madonna used True Blue to also build on her music.

WHO'S THAT GIRL?

That's what everyone was asking when Madonna released TRUE BLUE. The album was heralded with the provacative single "Papa Don't Preach" and its equally controversal video, but delivered a Madonna with a maturing sound and shattered any expectations; introducing the pop-icon that has endured through the new millennium. Madonna suddenly revealed she had something to say and would prove herself to be a powerhouse performer. With songs like "Open Your Heart", "Where's the Party" and the haughtingly beautiful "Live to Tell" (arguably the best Madonna ballad ever), TRUE BLUE stands out has a must-have part of any album collection and featured the most stunning album cover art shot by the legendary Herb Ritts.

A Classic Of It's Time

After her successful second album " Like A Virgin " Madonna became a true pop icon in the entertainment world. Her second studio album " True Blue " is beautifully done, with her haunting vocals and melodies in songs such as " Live To Tell " Madonna definatly deserves two thumbs up on her stunning work!

A Masterpiece, Never Gets Old

This is one of my ultimate favorite albums ever, every song is amazing. The sound really reflects the decade in which it was recorded, and I can't get enough. I listen to this to take me back to 1980s, it never fails. "Live to Tell" is such a powerful song, I have to restrain myself from listening to it too often, it's one of my absolute top favorite songs. Overall this is a must have album, buy it if you want amazingly great and meaningful music. Also, I am a guy, I mostly like rock/classic rock, so this goes to show you how much respect I have for genuine artists like Madonna.

After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. She rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she has manipulated the media and the public with...
