Pavarotti's Opera Made Easy

This is a great way to get exposed to Opera. When I was younger I never got it, then one day, a day I was feeling down and broken-hearted, I listened to Turandot Act III, Nessun dorma, and I had an epiphany. The beauty of it, it’s pure emotion, expressed in a way I have never heard before. And the awesome one of a kind, golden voice of Pavarati will give you goose-bumps… when you’re ready for this music it will cut straight to your emotions like a laser.-Pavarotti, may you rest in peace.

This is all the opera I'll probably need

I've never been much interested in opera, though I've always appreciated the immense amount of talent and training required of the performers. I actually came across this collection by a somewhat sideways route: I saw the video being passed around the internet of Paul Potts singing Nessun Dorma on "Britain's Got Talent" and I thought I would see if his album was available on iTunes. I found it, but then on a hunch I decided to search "Nessun Dorma" itself and listen to some other versions. Well, not to take anything away from Paul Potts; but when I heard the Pavarotti version... come on, it's Pavarotti. It's like saying, "Yeah, this Mini Cooper is a really fun car..." and then climbing into a Ferrari Modena. So the download of Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma led me to this album and it was exactly the right compilation catching me at the right moment of interest. As Pavarotti intended, this is a collection of opera music that is palatable to noobs like myself, music with memorable melodies that agree with my poppish sensibilities, and that I won't mind springing out of my iPod when I hit "Shuffle Songs." Great stuff, and perfect for the target audience, which certainly includes me. Now, I'm bracing myself for those wonderfully eclectic moments when my shuffle places Sinatra before, and Pavarotti after, a tune by Necrophagist or Ion Dissonance! :)

Arguably no other opera singer in music history achieved the same level of international celebrity as tenor Luciano Pavarotti; his voice — robust, resonant, and immediately recognizable — launched him into the stratosphere of household recognition usually reserved for pop stars and Hollywood icons, and in the process spurred opera itself on to new peaks of mainstream popularity.
