After their joyous self-titled debut album, Veronica Falls return with a slightly modified second album, Waiting for Something to Happen. The guitars now integrate with greater precision, and the vocals blend with assurance. Like a harder-rocking Camera Obscura, Veronica Falls balance sweet, wispy pop and peppy retro-rock, all twee and free. The title track flows like a tune by Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers, with an extra Byrds-like jangle. "Tell Me" recalls the lithe '60s pop of The Free Design matched with the chug of early R.E.M. The ballad "Daniel" breaks on through like a basement demo seeing the light of day. For some, the inspired amateurism of Veronica Falls' debut might be missed. However, this isn't far removed. Roxanne Clifford's guileless lead vocals bring a sweet vulnerability to "If You Still Want Me," and being (vocally) chased by the guys in the band adds a playful tension. Most importantly, Waiting for Something to Happen shows that guitar pop is far from dead.

Veronica Falls Did It Again!!!!!

Veronica Falls "Waiting For Something To Happen" is just how I exspected it would be simple, short, and catchy indie rock songs with beautiful girl/boy vocals. This album is amazing just as good as their debut. The only difference is the overall mood. It is much more upbeat, but there are some dark parts on this record. I highly recommend it!!

Brilliant Modern Pop With a Few Dark Shadows

"Waiting for Something to Happen" is a wonderfully written and performed full-length album that has traces of influence from the Mamas and Papas, as well as more directly the early to mid 1990s Boston-based, hard pop band Fuzzy, although Veronica Falls may have heard of Fuzzy indirectly, as that was 20 years ago. While the vocals for Veronica Falls do not have the range or intensity that Hilken Mancini once did for Fuzzy, they are nonetheless, on the surface, light and bouncy, and constitute outstanding pop music. Like the Mamas and Papas though, there is a darker undercurrent to all the smiles of the pop hooks, as "Buried Alive" shows. This is similar to the Mamas and Papas song,"Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon)," as it starts off with the lines, "I used to live in New York City/Everything there was dark and dirty/Outside my window was a steeple/With a clock that always read 12:30." My advice however is to not let the shadows of some of the songs on, "Waiting for Something to Happen" to get you down; instead, turn this album up all the way and have workplace dance party, which John Richards and Cheryl Waters on 90.3 KEXP will often mention on the air of people having not only in Seattle, but around the nation and world. Veronica Falls is fun music and music to dance around to, and is also an album that one can play cover to cover and then turn it around and play it again. I give this one 10 stars out of 10, is a masterpiece of modern pop music.

Sexy Kids bandmates Roxanne Clifford and Patrick Doyle teamed up with James Hoare of Your Twenties (whom they met, in true indie pop fashion, at a Comet Gain show) and their friend Marion Herbain to form Veronica Falls in 2009.
