Album Review

The lazy-mouthed co-CEO and co-founder of the Diplomats empire had some serious momentum rolling before he released this one. Besides the ever-growing Dipset fanbase there was "We Fly High," Jim Jones' highest-charting single to date and the unofficial theme song of the New York Giants' defensive line. Team members would imitate the jump shot move from the song's video every time they executed an especially brutal sack or tackle, and the crowd would respond with the song's "Baaaaaallllllin!" catch phrase. Hustler's P.O.M.E. (Product of My Environment) doesn't squander the buildup and offers great single number two, "Reppin' Time," which already makes the album twice as powerful as Jones' previous full-lengths. He's an iffy lyricist who can drop a witty line and then spin his wheels for a verse, so P.O.M.E. plays to his strengths and surrounds him with flash. Add "Pin the Tail," "Get It Poppin'," "My Life," and "Weatherman" with Lil Wayne to the aforementioned tracks and you've got a hefty bag of hooky club music, something that suits this charismatic baller just fine. Slick production throughout from folks like Chink Santana, the Runners, and Jim Bond makes this one of the more polished efforts in the Dipset universe. A couple soul-searching numbers paint life as a bleak survival game and borrow way too much from 2Pac's style to be taken seriously. If Jones could meet that legend's insight halfway, P.O.M.E. would be a champion. As it is, it's a contender and a serious step up for this scrappy hustler. [Hustler's P.O.M.E. (Product of My Environment) was also made available in a clean version, with all explicit material removed.]

hahahahaha how can u not laugh at some bull like this

well well, i can get over the fact that everyone yells BAALLIN all day cuz in my opinion its pretty funny . but if u just listen to the lyrics of this song, i mean if u had just the acapella, no beats, and no backround singer yellin ballin, would u like it? cuz ive heard the lyrics and i could wrote something better, the man doesnt even rhyme, he doesnt know what hes talking about. I think jayz sed it best, i give respect to that man cuz he finally came out and took a stand against what make rap so bad these days... and this is the definition of a one hit wonder which are the same as dust collectors, i say this cuz will people be yellin BALLLIN! next year? no! they wont. noone will even listen to this. itll play out on the radio, some dipshts will buy the album and the song will disapear. thats how u can tell its a bad song, it has no substance, no message. the one thing it does have, just one thing: BAALLLLIINN. haha no lie i think everyone likes this song just because of that word, nothing else. thats pretty dam sad on jim jones part. he couldnt think of a full song ppl would appreciate.

How?

Only in todays world of Rap, or whatever you call the dipset, can someone like jim jones actually have a song on itunes. People what is his attraction, what is unique about this man. This is where New York has lost it's mind, and so has anyone who even is thinking about buying him, and supporting someone who tells you that he could care very little about rap, because he makes million off of selling liqour. Not to mention his flow is garbage and who cares about harlem and the dipset anymore. Camron loses to jayz, by Jay z saying nothing. God Bless Tupac, who i wish was alive so people like this man wouldn't exist. The best to you jim, where ever you are, smiling about these kids buying your music off of Itunes.

1 of the best songs this year!

Wow, this song is amazing. I'm loving it. Great beat, catchy as h***! You'll bea walking around yelling "BBBAAAALLLIINNN!!!" for months. This is definatly worth the $0.99 (with tax). Don't miss out!

Along with fellow Harlem-based player Cam'ron, Jim Jones founded the Diplomat label, home to the Diplomats/Dipset and many of that crew's prolific solo activities. Though more of a businessman and behind-the-scenes figure than an MC (he was also named a director of A&R at Warner Music Group in early 2005), Jones released solo albums in 2004 (On My Way to Church, which hit the Top 20 upon its August release) and 2005 (Diary of a Summer).
