Editors’ Notes

In the three years since these vocalists stepped off the X Factor stage, we’ve fallen for their collaboration as Fifth Harmony. They followed the girl-power pop anthem “BO$$” with the sing-along electro-pop jam “Sledgehammer” and toured with the likes of Cher Lloyd, Demi Lovato, and Austin Mahone. Their full-length debut is a colorful blast of attitude-packed R&B pop, spiced up with flirty rhymes (“Them Girls Be Like”), Mariah Carey samples (the ultra-catchy "Like Mariah”), and guests including Kid Ink, Tyga, and Meghan Trainor. It’s the tunes when the distinct singers lean into lush vocal harmonies—“Reflection,” "This Is How We Roll,” “We Know"—where the album really shines.

Reflection

Out of the 7 or 6 songs I’ve heard, this is one of the best pop albums of the year

FLAWLESS

these girls are gonna slay with this album. I love bo$$ and the instant grant is amazing. so proud of my babies :'))

Trying too hard to be "trendy"

I love Fifth Harmony! I think they're all super talented, funny and sweet..but whoever decided to do this concept has gone over the top. Their use of phrases like "do the nae nae", "I ain't thirstin for no bae", "them girls be like", and others really irks me. It seems like they're just taking phrases that were made popular by things like vine and using them as an attempt to attract a bigger audience. I was disappointed with BO$$ but when I saw they were coming out with an album I hoped they would maybe go for a different approach. Unfortunately, the album cover looks tacky, and "Them Girls Be Like" has the same problem as BO$$. Hopefully the rest of the album has better music.
