Album Review

The Millennium Collection: The Best of Lesley Gore gathers a dozen of Gore's hits, including the two-part soap opera of "It's My Party" and "Judy's Turn to Cry," the sweeping, melodramatic "You Don't Own Me," and lighthearted "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows." Though it's nowhere near as extensive as collections like It's My Party: The Mercury Anthology or Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows: The Best of Lesley Gore, The Millennium Collection does include slightly obscure tracks such as "The Look of Love," "My Town, My Guy and Me," and "California Nights," her last Top 20 hit from 1967. A good collection for casual fans, even at just 12 songs long, The Millennium Collection showcases Gore's distinctive and surprisingly versatile sound.

Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows...

After searching for a download of "It's My Party" I realized that Lesley Gore has other songs worth listening too. My favorite is "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows". Despite it being extremely short and cheesy, it's just has this affect on you. If you're in a bad mood it makes you happy and if you're in a good mood it's even more perfect. Anyways, I definitely recommend downloading, if not the the album, at least a few of it's songs.

A must have

I started listening to Lesley Gore back in 2000 and I noticed that even though her musical sound is a bit pop, she speaks the truth. I think all the songs on here are awesome and a must have for any music lover.

The most commercially successful solo singer to be identified with the girl group sound, Lesley Gore hit the number one spot with her very first release, "It's My Party," in 1963. Produced by Quincy Jones, who fattened the teenager's sound with double-tracked vocals and intricate backup vocals and horns, she reeled off a few more big hits in 1963 and 1964, including "Judy's Turn to Cry," "She's a Fool," "You Don't Own Me," "That's the Way Boys Are," and "Maybe I Know." She wasn't the most soulful...
