Solid Sound
Returns in 2022!

We don’t expect it comes as a surprise that the 6th Solid Sound Festival won’t take place in 2021. We’ll miss our biennial trip to the Berkshires, but will use this extra time off to plan the best rendition of the festival yet. We look forward to seeing you again at MASS MoCA in early Summer 2022.

Some thing to look forward to. In the meantime, relive the 2019 festival here and refresh your wardrobe because all SSF merch has been marked down to $5!

How To
Write One Song

Jeff Tweedy’s second book, How To Write One Song: Loving The Things We Create and How They Love Us Back is out now.

Esquire hit the nail on the head: “[How to Write One Song] is one part manual for composing a song, and one part philosophical inquiry into the human desire—the human need—to create. It’s also an easy, delightful read.”

This is the perfect gift for your kid, or your inner child. What are you waiting for? Get creating:

A follow up:
Racial injustice in the music industry

In June 2020, Jeff shared this statement, committing 5% of his writer revenue to organizations fighting racial injustice in the music industry.

As of 2021, that revenue will be donated to I Grow Chicago, a Chicago organization focusing on community connection, skill building, and opportunity.

Jeff spoke to CBS This Morning about the initiative, watch the interview here.

New From Nels

Share The Wealth, a spankin’ new, multi-faceted document played by a sublimely-expanded edition of my long-standing combo called The Nels Cline Singers is out now.

“Anyone out there hankering for a rather elaborate elucidation of sonic architecture in the jazz/rock/improv universe at this time? I hope so, but I truly understand if not. Creations get created and plans to provide these creations to you, the ardent listeners, get planned, and so here I am/we are with Share The Wealth. I am, in spite of so many concerning non-musical occurrences that assail us all at this time, truly happy and proud to announce the imminent release of this double album.” – NC

We miss each other. So we wrote a song about it to sing with each other, to sing to each other.” – Jeff Tweedy

100 Polaroids

Previously out-of-print, Pat’s book “100 Polaroids” is now available for preorder. A portion of proceeds will be donated to MusiCares.

“10 years ago I put together this book to commemorate an exhibit at the first Solid Sound Festival… an exhibit of 100 photographs chosen from the thousands I had taken in the previous few years. I had just begun to look at preparing this reprint when COVID emerged, and was on the fence about whether or not to move forward with the endeavor. But I decided that I’d rather continue to stay involved in creative pursuits and share it with others…”

Available here.

All Lives, You Say?

Both pressings of the “All Lives, You Say?” 7-are officially sold out. Thanks! Because of you, we were able to donate $7,500 to Movement for Black Lives.

The digital version of this song was previously available via Bandcamp. Through those donations we contributed more than $30,000 to Southern Poverty Law Center and Life After Hate.

Support Local

We’d rather be at a record store, that’s for sure.

Our indie friends are taking a hit. And while we agree nothing beats flipping through the bins, we encourage you to check in with your local record store to see if you can peruse their inventory online. Many shops are even offering curbside pick-up for new, used and collectable vinyl, CDs and more. Record Store Day has compiled a helpful list to get you started. After all, “without these stores, there’s just no way Wilco would still be around.” – Jeff Tweedy

And if you already own the Wilco catalog, browse a sampling of the band’s latest recommendations featured on this playlist.

Via sales in the Wilco store, we were able to donated $7,000 to the Johnston family’s “Hi How Are You” Foundation for the study and treatment of mental illness and addiction recovery.
