Youth Speaks has recently embarked on a major new initiative to bring forth the voices of young people from across the country around critical issues of consequence through original online content and short film. We've created major partnerships to tackle issues critically impacting young people through three projects with a national scope: The Bigger Picture, the Off/Page Project and Raise Up.
Film edited by Kevin Holmes Original films directed by Jamie DeWolf and edited by Kevin Holmes Script written by José Vadi Voiceovers: José Vadi, Natasha Huey and Shannon Matesky
Every year, Youth Speaks gathers the community to celebrate the ongoing life and legacy of Dr. King. Our celebration — Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — is not a reenactment of speeches, a slideshow, or a polite revue of well-honed platitudes. It is a showcase of young people from throughout the Bay Area who have written, in their own voices, original works that grapple with the thoughts and work of the man, who are working to demand—in their own voices, in their lifetimes—huge leaps into possibility, an ongoing commitment to love like a consuming fire. We create a safe space—a beloved community—where our young people can—in the presence of many—give voice to realities that must be understood, embraced, and integrated into our common lives if we are to survive.
The Bigger Picture is a collaboration between Youth Speaks and the University of California, San Francisco Center for Vulnerable Populations designed to combat the rising epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes by empowering young people to challenge and name the institutional, environmental and social causes of Type 2 Diabetes.
In fall 2014, the Bigger Picture produced several public actions and disruptions to raise awareness around sodas lethal contributions to the type 2 diabetes in young people in California.

The Off/Page Project combines the groundbreaking storytelling of Youth Speaks with the analytical lens of The Center for Investigative Reporting. Living at the intersection of youth voice and civic engagement, the Off/Page Project provides a multimedia platform for young people to investigate the issues and stories that would otherwise be silenced. An unprecedented collaboration between poets and investigative journalists, the Off/Page Project is a nexus point for poets to report their stories and push the boundaries of 21st century American storytelling. Whether the facts are found in CIR's reporting or the primary text of Youth Speaks' poets, the story is yours to tell.

LIFE is LIVING (http://www.lifeisliving.org/) is a national campaign that uses a new form of green spoken story telling — one that represents the diverse and changing perspectives on what it means to be environmentally just. This campaign seeks to inspire people to take the value they see in their LIFE, and establish it powerfully as a new voice to define what it means to be logistically and psychologically included in the new, clean and green economies.
