Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in 1966.
Emigrated to Israel with his family in 1971, moved to Austria, then back to Israel, to the USA and finally returned to Austria again in 1981.
Studied economics in Vienna.
Austrian citizen since 1986, freelance writer since 1993.
Numerous publications in newspapers, magazines and anthologies; first book of short stories published in 1995, followed by several novels, which take migration and Jewish identity as their central themes.
Vertlib’s texts have been translated into Russian, Czech, Slovenian and Italian, among other languages.
Lives in Salzburg
