Born in Melk / Lower Austria on 2 May 1951.
Freelance writer since 1973.
In 1992 started studying German language and literature / drama studies / journalism and communication studies / comparative social history of literature in Vienna (graduated in 1997).
Contributions to radio, literary criticism and film reviews, editor and publisher, photography, drawing, watercolours, collages.
Literary collaborations with the writer Elfriede Gerstl (+ 2009).
Exhibitions at the Literaturhaus, Vienna (1993, 2000, 2013) and at the Literarischer Quartier Alte Schmiede (1989).
Herbert J. Wimmer lives in Vienna.
