Those 13 to 17 may receive an allowance if they set up an Amazon.com account and use it with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Amazon Allowance is directly added to the Gift Card Balance of the recipient’s Amazon.com account. If the recipient doesn't have an Amazon.com account, we'll send him/her an email to set up one. Amazon Allowance can be used instantly to buy what the recipient needs among millions of items on Amazon,like textbooks, dorm supplies, or Kindle eBooks.
View the details of your outgoing and incoming Allowances, see the next delivery date of the scheduled Allowances, or modify/turn off any Allowances on one page (Your Account -> Your Allowances). No fees are required to give, use, or manage Amazon Allowances.
Who can I give Amazon Allowances to?
You can give Allowances, both one-time and recurring Allowances, to your family, friends, or employees that are age 13 and above. Recipients who are ages 13 to 17 are only permitted to receive Amazon Allowances if they set up Amazon.com accounts and use the Allowances with the involvement of a parent or guardian. You can also give Amazon Allowances to yourself as a way to set aside a budget or save up for shopping on Amazon.com.
How does the recipient get the Amazon Allowance?
You simply need to enter the recipient’s email address when creating an Allowance. The Allowance funds will be automatically added to the Gift Card Balance of the Amazon.com account associated with the recipient’s email address. If no Amazon.com account is associated with the email address you enter, the recipient will receive an email from us to set up an Amazon.com account and claim the Allowance. The recipient and the sender will receive a notification each time an Allowance is delivered.
Does the Amazon Allowance recipient need to have an Amazon account to use the Amazon Allowance?
Yes. The recipient needs to have his/her own Amazon.com account to receive and use the Amazon Allowance. New Amazon.com accounts are easy to set up. Simply go to Your Account and start from there. Amazon Allowance is only permitted to be given to recipients who are age 13 and above. Recipients who are ages 13 to 17 are only permitted to set up the Amazon.com account and use the Amazon Allowance with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
What if I give an Amazon Allowance to someone who does not have an Amazon.com account?
No problem. Simply enter the email address of the recipient you want to receive the Allowance. If the email address matches an existing Amazon account, we’ll automatically add the Allowance to the recipient’s Amazon.com Gift Card Balance. If we don’t recognize their email, we’ll send the recipient an email to set up or log in to their account and accept their allowance. Once the Allowance is accepted by the recipient, the first Allowance and all subsequent Allowances will be automatically added to the recipient’s Amazon.com Gift Card Balance based on the frequency you select.
How many Allowances can I set up?
You can give multiple Allowances to a recipient. There is no limit to the number of Allowances you can set up.
What can the Allowance recipients purchase using the Allowances?

Does the Allowance expire?
Allowance funds added to recipients’ Amazon.com Gift Card Balance do not expire and are subject to our Amazon Gift Card Terms and Conditions.
When do I get charged for the Allowances I send?
You will be charged on the scheduled delivery date of your one-time, weekly, or monthly Allowance. You will be able to specify the delivery date and frequency when you create the Allowance. If the Amazon Allowance cannot be automatically applied to your recipient’s Amazon account, your charges will begin after your recipient has accepted the Allowance and then recur on the schedule you’ve selected.
How do I view, modify, or cancel an Allowance after setting it up?
Go to Your Allowances page to view, modify, or turn off the Allowances you set up.
Can I get refund on the Allowances I sent out?
Once an Allowance is added to the recipient’s Amazon.com Gift Card Balance, the Allowance cannot be refunded or cashed-out except as required by law. See the Amazon Gift Card Terms and Conditions.
As an Allowance recipient, how do I view my Allowances on Amazon.com?
Go to Your Account -> Your Allowances page to view the details and next delivery date of your incoming Allowances. Allowances are automatically added to your Amazon.com Gift Card Balance. Go to Your Account -> View Gift Card Balance page to check your available gift balance.
