I remember snow cones in my childhood, an old man would have a wooden cart and a small shaver made out some sort of metal, inside the closed cart it was a big block of ice and he would shave it and place it in a paper cone, with Tamarind and strawberries sort of syrup, today is too liquid... back then it was thick, I am talking about 1960's I was about young then... That was in Puerto Rico!!!!

I think the Eskimo's were the originators. You remember, don't eat the yellow snow.

The romans, greeks and egyptians would send a slave up to the mountains to get snow/ice to make them...even on hot ancient summer days. While the Xtians were having their bible written for them by the jews, the Romans would enjoy watching a Xtian get eaten or burned alive while enjoying a snow cone flavored with things like honey, fruit juice and even sweet cream, making them also the first to invent ice cream. Thank's socialist education!

Way back, when I was young, the ice man would come around with the ice or our ice box. We would grab the leftover chips, hit them with a hammer to crush them. put the ice in a cup, add sugar and we had a great cool sweet treat. However, without the cone.

I remember when the Sno-cone truck came around. Almost as popular as the ice cream man. Many years ago.

There is no doubt yellow snow cones have been around way before recorded history.

mmmm.... and dairy queen has a guaranteed brain freeze called a mr. sippi which is so so delicious on a super hot day and comes in wonderful flavors! slushies are good too in a pinch but are really too sweet for my taste. klondike bars are just plain messy. and my mom used to make us kool aid pops - she poured real sugary kool aid into an ice cube tray, stuck a toothpick in it and we all went gaga (not lady). we were poor as kids, what can i say? ;)

Obama likes the "Barocky Road" It is two scoops of ice cream covered with flakes, nuts, and fruits. It costs 80.00$ and the guy behind you in line has to pay for it.

there was a snowcone shop in reidsville that you can add either marshmellow, icecream, or both. They also have interesting, indescribable flavors like "titanic", "power ranger" and "spongebob"

new orleans sno-balls are the best! the ice is soft and the syrup is sooo flavorful, but not overly sticky-sweet. my fave is 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 raspberry--- yum yum! but everyone else i know loves to put condensed milk in theirs.
