Trane is Genius
This album features two original tunes; Bags Groove is spirited and haunting and Blues Legacy is a bonus track. Another bonus here is Centerpiece by Harry Edison. Gillespie's BE BOP has an amazing solo by Trane.
Oft Overlooked
This is another great jazz album from 1959, often overshadowed by Trane's own Giant Steps, KInd Of Blue, The Shape of Jazz To Come, etc. It's not as good as those, but deserves some attention. Milt Jackson, or Bags, is best known as the vibe player of the Modern Jazz Quartet, and he plays well as always. John Coltrane compliments Jackson well, and the all star rhythm section of Hank Jones, Connie Kay (another MJQ member), and Paul Chambers is very solid. It's less than eight bucks currently and totally worth it to pick up. All in all, more great hard bop from two jazz legends.
