Editors’ Notes

Pharrell Williams lent his talents to two of 2013’s biggest hits (Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke’s "Blurred Lines”) and chalked up production credits on some of the most successful albums of the ‘00s (including Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz, Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, Beyoncé’s B’Day, and a handful of JAY Z releases). Continuing this momentum, the singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist delivers a quiver of exuberant, soulful hits on his second full-length album. Several of Williams’ previous collaborators are all over G I R L: the cinematic strings are courtesy of Despicable Me soundtrack composer Hans Zimmer, Daft Punk appear on the futuristic disco of “Gust of Wind,” and Cyrus adds sultry sass to the stomping groove of “Come Get It Bae.” But for all the star power on his guest list, Williams’ magnetic presence gives the album euphoric continuity, as exemplified in every note of the sunny smash “Happy.” With its buoyant collection of soul-infused pop, G I R L is another victory from a musician with the world at his feet.

Nice & Fresh

This album is a nice fresh breath of air. It's hard to find good music these days and Pharrell is one of the leaders. Every track meets a delicate balance. I would also suggest everyone check out Robbie Freeman and his track, Drinks On The House as I predict it will be the club banger of the year. I love itunes as it helps us discover new talent. Keep making great track Pharrell and you will build a loyal following.

Real music! Real sound! Real everything! We really need this type of music back. Been waiting to long..

What Happened!?

Honestly I've always respected Pharrell as a producer and artist. Really enjoyed the work he's done with Jay-z and certainly think JT was some of his best. This record however…Tracks 1-4 were absolutely brutal. Garageband-like sounds, vocal lines fighting keys and an absolute mess (even melodyne correction is struggling on the record). Happy is what it is, and actually a highlight on the record. Gust of wind had a cool vibe as well as did It Girl. Most of that had to do with the guitar player sounding tight. Lyrically this is awful and I expected way better things tonally from a well established producer. Hope to see him evolve in a future project, but unfortunately this may have be a quick attempt to capitalize on his momentum from Robin Thicke/Daft Punk.

Honestly all the 5 star reviews… Where is the bar anymore?
