iTunes Editors’ Notes

Bruce Springsteen's biggest album came in 1984, when America was in the midstof an orgy of patriotism that touched everything from Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign to the Summer Olympics. Born in the U.S.A. delivered the superstar status that Springsteen fans had always expected, while also proving that you can have a smash without everyone listening to the words: the title track was momentarily hijacked by Reagan, despite its angry, mournful depiction of a broken Vietnam veteran. It was one of seven hits from U.S.A., which also included the ultra-modern synth-rock of "Dancing in the Dark," the lustful "I'm on Fire," and the quiet, end-of-the-road "My Hometown." Springsteen's ability to make fist-waving, good-time music of troubled stories ("Working on the Highway," "Glory Days") was at its highest peak here.

Brillaint ( The Bus Story )

Today as I got on the bus, jons says "What ya listening to? "I show him my ipod which is playing Dancing In The Dark and he says," My god girl the guy ur listening 2 is so old I can't even pronounce his name." I just started at him in horror shock. "You," I croaked, " don't know who The Boss is?' "Uh no," he answered as if it was a given. And I think to myself, what was this world come 2 if ppl don't know who the boss is. I am 13, but trust me I know music. I grew up in a house surronded by rock'n'roll. This album is brillaint and for any teens who think bruce is lame or watever, well as I told Jon on the bus, " Dude, you need 2 listen to The Boss, or like go jump off a cliff."

A Classic of the 20th Century

It doesn't matter if you thought Dancing in the Dark was too "Poppy" or just didn't like Courtney Cox doin the "white girl dance" on the Dancing in the Dark video - This album will and should be remembered as one of the great pieces of Americana - Go ahead, - get 10 of your friends together - throw a Bar-B-Que and then throw on this CD - grab a beer and a hot dog and before the end of the album, you and 9 of your friends (there's always 1 in the crowd that'll want you to put on the new 50 Cent CD...) will be smiling and probably dancing before the end of the night. Songs like Downbown Train, I'm On Fire, Glory Days and My Hometown will make you wonder where lyrics like that disappeared to over the past 20 years. Put this album and Born to Run in a time vault - open them 50 years from now and you'll probably be wondering what ever happened to great American music like this.

5 Stars without a Doubt

I can't forget this album! I got it back in 1985 from a friend as a Christmas gift. It is still one of the best gifts I've ever received! Springsteen and the E Street Band are excellent in this work and each song has merit. Albums like this are almost extinct in todays pop/rock genre. My favorites are tracks 1,2,6,7,9,10,11,12 but the others are good too. No Surrender might be the best track, but then again it could be I'm On Fire or is it Glory Days, no it's My Hometown, awwww, they are all great! Bruce is a wonderful songwriter and the older I get to more meaning each song has. I was only 14 back in '85 and didn't quite understand Born in the USA, but I do now and my hometown in East Tennessee comes to mind when Bruce says "son take a good look around..." and oh boy do those glory days "pass you by in the wink of a young girls eye"! Do yourself a favor and download the entire album, it's a classic rock masterpiece.
