Editors’ Notes

Although the gilded tragedy of Jay Gatsby epitomizes the pitfalls of Roaring ’20s hedonism, the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel is laden with synthesizers and samplers, not saxophones. By filling the album with new music by Beyoncé, Jack White, will.i.am., and Jay-Z (who also serves as the executive producer), it makes a shrewd parallel between Jazz Era glitz and the indulgent bling of contemporary pop charts. The best track? It’s hard to choose, but the unchecked sleaze of Beyoncé and André 3000's cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” has a sinister brilliance, while Sia's torchy, melancholy closer "Kill and Run" is downright chilling. With its striking contrasts and unexpected execution, this soundtrack rivals the programmatic genius of the one for Luhrmann’s 1996 film Romeo + Juliet.

BEST 2013 SOUNDTRACK!

This is the best soundtrack this year by far! LANA DEL REY'S, YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL IS HAUNTING AND AMAZING! Can't wait for the rest of the album and of course the movie of the year! The Great Gatsby is a classic and this soundtrack does it justice!

Good soundtrack, but......

It's a good soundtrack, executed very well, BUT....... Completely dissapointed in using these styles of music for the movie. Gatsby screams 1920s and this soundtrack DOES not.....

Great Soundtrack but...

This is what I remember movie soundtracks to look and sound like. It's stacked with great songs by great artists through and through. My only problem is that they're missing the band Filter's cover of 'Happy Together'? Honestly, it was that song that pulled me in (during the trailer) that made me go, "Wow, Now this movie looks great"! Why did they exclude the very song that seems to be the mood and the theme of the film?
