iTunes Editors’ Notes
Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ billowing cloud of avant-rock is invaded here by a clutch of disco synths, exploring new areas of tempo, personality and atmosphere for this New York art-punk trio. Guitarist Nick Zinner steers the course with imaginative guitar work, drummer Brian Chase probably hasn’t had this much fun drumming on a record before, and singer Karen O wraps herself in electrical-taped chiffon for disco drag-outs “Zero,” “Heads Will Roll” and “Dragon Queen.” Production from David Sitek (TV On the Radio) and Nick Launay ensure It’s Blitz! is a contemporary affair. The Deluxe Edition includes bonus acoustic versions of “Soft Shock,” “Skeletons,” “Hysteric,” and “Runaway,” plus iTunes exclusive track “Faces.”

I'm Confused
Okay, let me say first that I adore the YYYs. I live for "Fever to Tell" and "Show Your Bones," and I would probably go gay for Karen O. That being said, I'm not really diggin this new sound. At all. It's not even that the songs aren't good (Skeletons is great, and all of the acoustics are beautiful), it just doesn't sound like them anymore. Of course it's good to progress as a band, but if it weren't for Karen's distinctive, gorgeous voice, I wouldn't have been able to pick this out as YYYs if I heard it on the radio. But I'm going to keep listening and hope it grows more on me. Until then, I'll be waiting for next album, which I hope gets back to the rough, eclectic, unpredictable roots that made me fall in love with this band.
Another Solid Contribution
The YYY's seem to evolve with each album in a new direction. There is a more electronic feel here with a greater emphasis on synths as heard on the track Down Boy off the Is Is Ep. I have a feeling a lot of fans of the band's first full length won't like this album as much because it doesn't have the heavy guitar riffs and has a more somber feel. However the album is still very varied. Zero is a rock-synth type anthem. Heads Will Roll is another high energy track almost dance floor track. Tracks toward the end of the album have a more "power ballad" feel to them. I say power ballad because the band is much more polished this album than any of its predecessors. Runaway for example feels like it could have come from a Broadway play. I personally would have liked 1-2 more raw or upbeat tracks, but I am still happy with everything overall. Bottom line is that
Yeah Yeah Yeahs Are True Rockstars!
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are most likely one of the greatest modern rock bands. They are constantly changing their sound. I own every song they have ever put out and can instantly determine which song is playing within the first few seconds. That is how inventive and unique they are. No two songs ever sounds the same or similar. And this album is no different. No two songs are alike and none of the songs on this album are like any of the songs they've previousy released. Although I do miss Nick Zinner's amazing guitar licks and riffs, it is a different sound than anything they were like before. But still brilliant in a more dance-y way. And Karen O's vocals are as stand-out as ever. And even compliment the beats. All I ask from the next album is please give Nick back his guitar. I miss doing air guitar in my car to YYY songs. Also first review. Awesome. I love this band. Huge fan.
