Editors’ Notes
Considering the intense volatility of their sound, New York’s art-punk trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs benefit from the compressed punch of the EP format where every note carries added weight. There’s no time to self-indulge and the band has always been at its best when surging forth with primitive soul fully exposed. Singer Karen O has grown past whatever PJ Harvey affections her earliest works supposed and she’s in complete control for the extra maelstrom of “Down Boy” where she indulges both her quieter, contemplative side and her sudden shrieks to nowhere. The band’s basic guitar / drum combo leaves little room for the extra flourish, yet guitarist Nick Zinner gets the most out of heavily distorted riffage. The new-wave strokes of “Kiss, Kiss” careen with an ebullient pop melody underneath the overdriven attack. With “Isis” the group also proves that garage rock need not lose its sex-drive come-on. Nothing wrong with a quick dose of abrasive fun.

Back To Fever To Tell?
This EP is very good. Some of the songs have been played live by YYY for years and they are finally recorded. To me, the whole sound throughout the EP is back to their earlier stuff. I think it sounds even more similar to Fever To Tell than it does to Show Your Bones. Mostly what I feel while listening to it is power, because these songs are indeed very intense. Let's go over them: 1. Rockers To Swallow - 8/10 - This is the lead off track and sets the mood. She does a lot of "interesting" things to her voice, and she's the only one who can do that. I like it. 2. Down Boy - 7/10 - I like this song better live. They stripped away some of its noise and it seems more calm, but the chorus does launch into pretty loud singing. 3. Kiss, Kiss - 6/10 - The weakest song on the EP, but still really good. It doesn't sound unique like the yeah yeah yeahs, but it's still catchy. 4. Isis - 9/10 - This song was the first one I listened to after getting this EP. It's absolutely wonderful. Extremely powerful and deep. I recommend this for anyone. 5. 10 X 10 - 10/10 - I like this song best. A great beat, great guitar, and great vocals. One of those songs that begs to be listened to loud. So overall, the original yeah yeah yeahs fans will love this. I definitely recommend it if you like Fever To Tell. Recommended For: - Music Fans - Indie Kids - Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fans
Double Dang.
Real new wave, kiddies. "Rockers to Swallow" and "Down Boy" make me want to dance real hard and throw myself down some stairs, just to make sure I "get it". That means I like it. Lots.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - soo hot right now
"Rockers to Swallow" is is so badass i can't even begin to describe. Probably the most overtly sexual beat I've ever heard. "Down Boy" starts off pretty cool, and then about 45 seconds in it just gets ripped apart in the best way. Nick's solo in that song is phenomenal. The rest of the EP is great too and revives sound the Yeah Yeah Yeahs perfected on Fever To Tell. The "Down Boy" video here is a hell of a bonus, taken from live show recorded in night vision at Glasslands Gallery.
