Editors’ Notes

Here we have a good handful of GRAMMY-awarded songwriters, producers and other artists adding to Caillat’s beachy singer/songwriter recipe, including Rick Nowels, Greg Wells, John Shanks and Kara DioGuardi (acclaimed songwriter and judge of 2009’s American Idol). But just because there are so many cooks in the kitchen hardly means that Breakthrough isn’t a good album — it’s a great album, albeit somewhat watered down. With continued help from Coco’s collaborators Jason Reeves and Mikal Blue, fans can rest assured that Caillat still coos with that warm Jason Mraz-esque coastal vibe, even in the tunes that muse on broken hearts and complicated relationships like the opening number “I Won’t” and the amorously apprehensive “Begin Again.” The obvious standout “Fallin’ for You” is easily the catchiest tune here with its subtly powerful chorus hooks and persevering themes of summer love. Out of the whopping seven extra bonus tracks, the Burt Bacharach-inspired “Out of My Mind” and the tropical “Begin Again (Reggae Version)” are the most instantly likable songs.

FIRST REVIEW FOR MY FAVORITE SINGER AND IDOL!!!!

Beautiful and talented is what Colbie Caillat is. She shows every drop of it in her music! Here are my reviews on this terrific album! I Won't- 9/10- great start to the album with a catchy tune. Begin Again-10/10- One of my absolute favorites! It's upbeat and fun and the lyrics are so uplifting. I can't help singing along! You Got Me- 10/10- Another one of my favorites. Kind of like Fallin' For You with the lyrics but the tune is melodious and flowing. Fallin' For You- 10/10- The hit single which enough said is fabulous. It gives something that everyone can relate to. Rainbow- 7/10- similar to the other songs but once again can put a smile on your face. Droplets- 9/10- Beautiful duet with Jason Reeves. This song was already written a while ago but it was a great idea putting it on this album because its theme worked with the rest of the songs. I Never Told You- 8/10- This was a slower song and a little sad but the tune was pretty and wasn't out of place. The lyrics were sweet. Fearless- 7/10- Another slow song and not too many variations but again pretty. Runnin' Around- 9/10- I liked this one alot. This is one of those "dance in your room" songs. Very catchy and a foot tapper. Break Through- 9/10- The title of the album. This song didn't have the lyrics I expected from the title "Break Through" but it's really sweet and makes you smile when you think of someone you love. It Stops Today- 7/10- Upbeat and nice but again not too different to the first songs. Breakin' At the Cracks- 7/10- A little slower and long, which was the only downer of this song, but it compliments her husky voice. What I Wanted to Say- 6/10- Bonus track. I liked it but I didn't love it as much as the other tracks. It was pretty much in the same scale. Out of My Mind- 7/10 - Slow but it was nice because the tempo was faster than the other slow songs and again it compliments her husky voice. Don't Hold Me Down- 8/10- Back to the upbeat tune. Again nice but still similar to the first songs like "I Won't" Never Let You Go- 6/10- I didn't enjoy this song as much but it might grow on me. Hold Your Head High- 6/10- Kinda sounds like "Break Through" Stay With Me- 6/10- It was ok but it had piano and her voice wasn't as soothing like the other songs. Begin Again (Reggae Version)- 9/10- If you liek Bob Marley, you'll like this song. It was really upbeat and nice twist to the amazing original! I Definetly recommend this album! I LOVE YOU COLBIE!

She Does It Again! :)

After her first successful album "Coco", I didn't think she could get any better. Fortunately, I was wrong. Colbie Caillat does it once again. Even though some of her tracks on her new album "Breakthrough" are a bit more up-tempo compared to most of her tracks, that doesn't change anything about how cute and beautiful this album is. Even though it's a bit different compared to her older work, I don't think any less of her. Hearing her hit single "Fallin' for You" proved to me that this album was going to be amazing. Her new album is charming, sweet and beautiful. I simply love it. Even though many of her songs point toward the same message of love, happiness, or sadness, each track has it's own spice that satisfies me greatly. Her cute charming lyrics never seem to dissapoint. Colbie Caillat has pulled through on her second album, and it does not dissapoint the slightest bit. I'm very pleased with her new and stylish peice of work. :D

Absolutely Brilliant!!

This album makes me want to lay down, close my eyes, relax, and take everything in.

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

By age 21, vocalist Colbie Caillat had evolved swiftly from an aspiring R&B/folk singer to a pop sensation, a feat that owed as much to the marketing assistance of MySpace as the meteoric popularity of her debut single, "Bubbly." Caillat's childhood was spent in Malibu and Ventura County with her father, Ken Caillat, an established audio engineer who helped produce Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Tusk. Songs were often mixed at the console in her Malibu beach house, filling the corridors with the...
