Every Movement has It's Birth...

American's younger than 25 might not know what they are missing. "The Stone Roses" fill a giant hole in anyone's music collection.

The Stone Roses stand in rare air as one of the greatest “What If?” bands of the 80’s and 90’s. They were alternative when “Alternative Music” wasn’t just a branding tool; before Alternative became a semantic driven genre on par with “Classic Rock” or "Golden Oldies". The Stone Roses album is both father and son of the brit-pop scene that commercially peaked with Oasis. You feel the push of the Happy Mondays behind it and the pull of bands like Blur and dare I say as far reaching as the Libertines. I can just imagine Pete Doherty listening as he developed his own style.

The Stone Roses is a classic album, moody, melodic, druggy and poppy...and its crowning jewel is “I am the Reserurrection”. It is that albums “A Day in the Life”. Throughout this song The Stone Roses take you places muscially that you didn’t think you could go in the constaints of ONE song. The best compliment I could give it is: Never has a 6-7 minute song sounded so short.

And then there is "I Wanna be Adored" which became a mantra for the celebrity driven gone crazy culture of the 2000's. You have to be quite brave to write and sing as a lyric "I don't have to sell my soul/He's already in me"....

The Stone Roses may not have realized they mere making a landmark album, but it shouldn't mean we have to miss on it.

We could

This album is just that good. Usually I know exactly which song is my favorite on an album, but not here. They're all great. Beautiful sound, beautiful lyrics, amazing talent. "She Bangs the Drums" has one of my favorite basslines, as do "I Am The Resurrection" and "I Wanna Be Adored". "Waterfall" has an intoxicating riff, "Made of Stone" is a classic, and nothing showcases the band's talent like "Fools Gold". My least favorite song on here may be "(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister", not because it's a bad song (quite the opposite), but it pales in comparison to the rest of the album. Even "Elizabeth, My Dear" accomplishes more in it's 53 seconds than most mainstream songs can in 4 minutes. I'd recommend this album to anyone. It's just too bad they couldn't hold it together. Such is the fate of most bands with phenomenal debuts.
