Editors’ Notes

In a digital, DIY world that breeds more new artists than ever before, sometimes it takes a genuinely captivating point of view to really stand out. Such is the case with Aussie singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett, whose debut LP, Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, had us addicted from our first listen. It also helped Barnett earn a place among our 2015 New Artist Spotlight. A stunning lyricist who paints piercingly vivid sketches of small moments, Barnett sings in a blunt, deadpan voice somewhere between Liz Phair and Joan Jett. With their earworm melodies and crisp production, Barnett’s songs are riveting—from character-driven opener “Elevator Operator” to gorgeously swaying centerpiece “Small Poppies.”

Sometimes I like certain artist, and sometimes I love certain artist

I love Courtney Barnett, she's witty, original and a breath of fresh air. The music at times is raw, then other times is melodic and beautiful. She is the bees knees!

Overhyped

Good rock music but by no means very innovative.

One song flows into the next

I am writing this immediately after listening to all the songs as soon as the full release became available. For many albums and artists, it's not a good thing to hear that it's hard to tell when one song ends and the next one starts without looking. But for Sometimes, it's a great thing. Instead of being a simple 11 song album, it manages to be an 11 movement song. I would recommend the album to those who pay attention to lyrics and hold them to be important, for the story told through the lyrics is the heart of the album. As for sound, if you liked the preview of "Depreston", the rest of the album is a go and sounds quite like that.
