At Last!

Finally, a production to equal the classic of the mid-eighties featuring Kathleen Battle (now Upshaw), Ruggero Raimondi (now Furlanetto), Frederica von Stade (now, von Otter), Carol VanEss (now and always Dame Kiri!) ... Dawn Upshaw had a tiny role in the early production as Barbarina. We knew she would soon be the lead! This new release will get many plays. Bravo! What a cast!

Nice summary, but get the original

The original recording, from which this is an excerpt, is in my opinion the best rendering of Le Nozze out there. Granted, it features a piano in place of harpsicord, but all the other elements are so superb, it's easy to overlook this detail. If you are thinking about buying this excerpted set, do yourself a favor and get the integral version on CD. You won't regret it - the libretto is helpful to appreciate the full beauty of this masterpiece. My family is literally addicted to Nozze -- down to our 2 year old, who loves listeing to "se vuol ballare" ad nauseum. Very highly recommended.

Metropolitan's Mozart Masterpiece

An all-world cast brought together by the world's finest opera company to perform the greatest opera ever written. I paid four times as much to purchase the four-CD recording of a similar Metropolitan Opera performance, and this is every bit as good, if not better, than that recording. "Sull'aria" performed by Dawn Upshaw and Kiri Te Kawana? Unbelievable. Heidi Grant Murphy's "L'ho perduta" makes me feel her anguish without even seeing her, and the subtlety with which she delivers the final note is beyond sublime. Simply put, this is an extraordinary recording at an unbelievable price.
