iTunes Editors’ Notes

Field Report achieve a sparse elegance on their second release. Chris Porterfield (a former member of DeYarmond Edison) formed the group with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and members of Megafaun; the songs on Marigolden are built around his ornate, introspective lyrics. But it’s the careful arrangements surrounding Porterfield’s understated vocals that make the difference. Light electronica adds depth and texture to the acoustic guitar, bass, drums, and pedal steel. This is a new dimension for the band that helps raise Marigolden a notch above their first release while supporting the album’s dreamy feel and steady pacing.

Exceptional

I was wondering how Porterfield was going to top his debut album; now I see he and his bandmates were just warming up. An extraordinary record, from start to finish.

Delicious surprise!

"Cups and Cups" is the best treat I encountered over the holidays. Superbly delectable and tauntingly beautiful. Fabulous creation.

Born in Minnesota, Porterfield moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he was a member of the folk-rock group DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon,...
