iTunes Editors’ Notes

There was so much controversy orbiting around Michael Jackson’s untimely death that in the midst of all the hoopla, it was easy to overlook the incredible music that defined and befuddled his life, save for the 2009 documentary This Is It. This accompanying collection of songs serves as both a celebration and eulogy of Jackson’s life in music. It begins with the svelte funk of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” the leading track from the world’s biggest selling album of all time, 1982’s Thriller. Basketball fans should delight in the following tune “Jam,” from 1991’s Dangerous, as it also served as the theme song for the Chicago Bulls back when Michael Jordan starred in the song’s video. The stellar remastering of “Jam” allows all the studio nuances to pop out of the song. This is even more evident on the remastered “Beat It,” especially on Eddie Van Halen’s amazing guitar work where you can really hear the textures and tone like never before. The heartfelt title track closes this compilation — “This Is It” was co-written by Paul Anka. Exclusive to the soundtrack, original tapes of the song were purportedly found in a box of Jackson’s belongings following his death.

Customer Reviews

Well...

I would rather get the live versions of the songs Michael Jackson has done. I mean seriously, There is nothing on here besides This Is It, Shake Your Body, Jam. The others you already bought in the three compilation albums since 2003. I would've prefered to recieve a live version. Everytime i see the commercials, I get goosebumps from how good the music sounds. Thats all i wish!

Why Is THIS IS IT album only?

Michael Jackson's latest single This Is It shouldn't be album only. People should be able to buy it seperately. I already have all these songs except This Is It. Darn you greedy record executives. What would Michael Want? Please let us be able to buy that song separately.

If you want to buy the single, buy the Selections EP

Buying the "This Is It Selections" EP is the only way to just get the single and the bonus stuff and also the only way to boost the single's popularity on the Billboard charts. Doing it is highly recommended for both casual and hardcore fans alike unless you've never bought a MJ hits album in your life prior to wanting to see or having seen the This Is It film.
