Amazing and Unique Soundtrack

I am not much of a fan of M83, but this album is amazing. Although the style of the album is much like Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy and I have found (in listening to the 17 track release) that parts of the album resemble Hans Zimmer's Inception and Batman soundtracks, Marc Streitenfeld's Prometheus, and the electronics sound like those done by Harry Gregson Williams, the album still has a very unique composure. The usage of drums in many of the tracks are unlike anything I have ever heard in a soundtrack before. The way the drums are used sounds more like the way they are used in rock music than in soundtracks, which adds a very unique sound to the album. Another thing I have not seen in other artists is how the electronics play like an orchestra and perfectly accompany the classical instruments with almost half the music being played by each. There is also heavy use of the violin, but it is far from repetitive. They pull every possible sound from the instrument and play it alongside some of the greatest computer generated sounds I have ever heard. The collaborative effort of drums, strings, and electronics creates a kind of dark but hopeful sound that I have never heard before. While using obvious influences or sounds from other artists, M83 creates a very unique and beautiful sound for this album which I hope to see more of in the future.

Excellent!

Reminded me of Mass Effect :)

Pure Magic

I've been waiting for this for a long time. I can already tell this will be Grammy-Worthy. M83 never disappoints.

In 2003, Frenchmen Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau enjoyed international acclaim for the album Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, a luscious blend of shoegaze aesthetics, ambient pop, and progressive textures. But M83 had been releasing material for several years, having issued their self-titled debut through the tiny but taste-making French label Gooom in 2001. The success of Dead Cities, Red Seas brought attention not only to M83, but also to the Gooom label, which helped fuel the...
