Their "Brilliant Career" Has Begun!

I had to go back and re-write this review after learning that the misfits at Pitchfork gave it a 6.9 out of 10. It was really bugging me. Isn't that the equivalent of a D+? Let's not forget that these are the same people who raved about that Fiery Furnaces "fingernails on the blackboard" of an album, Blueberry Boat. Let me set the record straight and revise the Pitchfork rating to 8.7. A solid B+ is more like it. You can stick a fork in that. OK, I feel much better. Film School is at their artistic peak with this sonically atmospheric album. Listen to it once, and you'll dig it. Listen to it five times, and you'll adore it. While more accessible than Serena Maneesh's 2005 self-titled shoegaze masterpiece, it exhibits the same magnetic appeal and inventiveness. I highly recommend this album!

Film School

I hadn't heard of Film School before today. I was browsing around the new releases, and the name of the group caught my eye. I sampled the lot of the songs, and liked what i heard, so, like any avid iTunes user, I purchased the album. What an amazing evolution in music. It really reminded me of My Bloody Valentine's later work (Glider EP). All in all, it's an all around good album. I recomend track two, "On & On".

Bloc Party meets Doves with a touch of acid...

This group is phenomenal... the 30 seconds clips do the songs zero justice. If you appreciate bands in their early days such as U2 and the Cure (amongst others) strictly because of their rawness, then this album is for you. The sound is very unique and the guitars and bass mixed with howls are just pure genious... I don't want to label it as stoner rock (like QueensSA) but this is some very trippy music. Is has some sweet melodic echoes with some great vibe bass. I can listen to this music and just trip out on it without substances... I hate to sound off but after I was hooked on Bloc Party I thought that it was the sound I was craving... after many listens I was bored, Film School has the deap feel that make each listen a beautiful thing.

Inspired by post-punk, dream pop, and a touch of electronica, the San Francisco-via-New York quintet Film School began as the brainchild of vocalist/guitarist Krayg Burton (aka Greg Bertens), who began recording under the Film School name in the late '90s. After releasing the I'm Not Working 7" on MeToo!
