iTunes Editors’ Notes
John Fogerty’s music has always pined for a past that may or may not have been his own. With Creedence Clearwater Revival, he sang of the Louisiana Bayou from his porch in Northern California. This 1985 solo album served as his “comeback” after years of silence. He remembers Elvis (“Big Train (From Memphis)”), women (“Rock and Roll Girls”), the unfolding of his childhood to adulthood (“I Saw It On T.V.”) and even makes a few thinly veiled comments about his former record label president (“The Old Man Down the Road,” “Mr. Greed,” “Vanz Kant Danz,” renamed because it was too close to identifying his real nemesis.) The 25th Anniversary Edition includes two heated bonus cuts with “I Confess” and “My Toot Toot,” both of which boil over with Fogerty’s powerful and gutsy vocals that never abandoned him after all those years spent out of the musical eye. Fogerty was always a master of concision and Centerfield is an economical tour de force. The emotions still come through at full force and the guitars shimmer with the same stately presence as the days of old.

Fogerty's Finest Masterpiece
IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY YOUR FIRST FOGERTY SOLO ALBUM - START HERE. Obviously, John Fogerty's genius goes back to the 1960s with all of his CCR hits. For those in the know, his brilliance has continued in the 21st Century, with great albums like Deja Vu - All Over Again, Revival and most recently the duets album Wrote a Song For Everyone. However, Centerfield is a remarkable milepost which - more than any other album - captures all of his magic. The title track is probably the best known and evokes the happy hopeful feelings of childhood. Rock and Roll Girls is an absolutely terrific little rocker that was unlike anything else Fogerty did - until maybe Blue Moon Swamp in 1997 (FYI - a great one to hear when he's on tour). On The Old Man Down the Road, we hear John wailing like only he can (as if from some long lost haunted bayou). Big Train (from Memphis) has the Southern country feel that John displays in his Blue Ridge Rangers Mode. I Saw it on T.V. is a nostalgic piece that presents history as many experienced in the early days of television; This song seems to foreshadow some of the work in Deja Vu and Revival. Mr. Greed and Vanz Kant Dance, while perhaps targeted at one individual - seem even more relevant in 2014 - as the Middle Class struggles while the few Have More's keep taking from the Barely Have Any's . . . A GREAT Album - Highly recommended.
