Album Review

"The District Sleeps Alone" is one of the moodiest highlights of the Postal Service's moody 2003 album Give Up. The track features deeply sad vocals by Ben Gibbard and some inspired musical backing full of tripping strings, sweeping female harmony vocals, and skittery beats provided by Jimmy Tamborello. The two remixes of the track on the single don't improve upon the original much but are interesting: DJ Downfall's "Persistent Beat" mix adds a persistent beat, some fluttery sequencers, and a jolt of energy while John Tejada's mix adds a housey beat and some slide guitar. Both mixes keep the vocals intact. The fourth song is an imaginative and subdued take on the Flaming Lips' "Suddenly Everything Has Changed."

Repeat

I think I've listened to Such Great Heights over 300 times. The current count is over 200, and when my computer bit the dust a few months ago, I had to start the count over. And I was obsessed way before that. It never gets old. Some days, it's all I can hear in my head.

What i thought

Have you ever been in the middle of a million small things that you had to do or your balance for the next week would be gone and sat near your music machine wondering if it would fail you on your quest for findings things in other being lost and it didn't fail? Well, confusingly enough, this album is what exactly threw the fulcrum point into the right place. This Album gets a good review from the late night note taker of free write and their analysis s ss sss. Death Cab For Cutie is a good band to listen too if you haven't discovered them when soaking in this EP. Well those two don't have to be found while listening to it. The wonders of this Lead singer needs to be harnest somehow, but untill then, keep you ears open.

Named for the courier service that allowed them to trade song ideas while living in different locales, the Postal Service were a short-lived supergroup featuring Jimmy Tamborello (leader of the electronica bands Dntel and Figurine) and Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard. Adding to the project's star status were Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis and former Tattle Tale member Jen Wood, both of whom contributed backing vocals to the band's mix of bubbling electronica and indie pop.
