A TRUE GEM - CAN

This album was just released in France (yesterday), so I've heard it already and it's fantastic! Yes, I am a long-time, unabashed and biased Mika fan, but I think it'll be clear to anyone who hears this record that Mika has evolved both musically and lyrically, and he benefits greatly from all the stellar collaborations on this album. Working with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun), Benny Benassi, producer Greg Wells, and others, Mika has created an album that's fresh and different from his previous two efforts, yet is chock full of pop deliciousness and still distinctively MIKA! My top picks from the album? By far, the most powerful song on the album is Underwater, a stirring ballad with a steady beat that crescendoes with the declaration "with your love I can breathe under water!" The title track, an untraditional love song tinged with some social commentary undertones, conveys that sense of joy and elation at finding Mister/Miss Right ("The origin is you... Thank God that you found me!"). Make You Happy (in each of its incarnations) is a hypnotic, electronic wonder that captivates with its persistent chorus: alliwannadoismakeyouhappyalliwannadoismakeyouhappy... And don't miss Stardust, sure to be a club hit, with a driving dance beat and just a smattering of the trademark Mika falsetto. The rest of the tracks on the album are worth a listen as well, from the mid-tempo Step With Me, co-written with Grammy award-winning Hillary Lindsey, to the lyrically quirky Only Love You When I'm Drunk, to Lola, which conjures up '70s memories of the legendary sound of Fleetwood Mac. There's lots more to love on this album if you love well-crafted pop music that's not just catchy -- it's both memorable and meaningful. This album is definitely worth owning and I can't wait until October 16th when it will FINALLY arrive here in the US!

I'm not sure about this one...

This review is based on previewing the tracks;
I don't know why but on this album I just can't hear the MIKA that I fell in love with. They made him sound so generic, which is a shame, since MIKA is anything but generic. The only song that caught my attention is Emily, mainly due to the fact that it really shows of Mikas vocal range, in other songs he just sounds flat...

This Album

This album is intimidating as a musician. It's humbling as a human being. Mika has not only surpassed himself with this album but also every modern artist. This album has made me question if I really ever liked any of the music I ever thought I liked. This album makes being alive better.

Biography

Pop magpie Mika's bright, kaleidoscopic music has drawn comparisons to everyone from Queen and Elton John to the Scissor Sisters and Rufus Wainwright. The frequent moves, incidents like his father being taken hostage at Kuwait's...
