While Oasis has always been ruled by the Gallagher Brothers, Liam and Noel, in recent years the band has transformed into a democracy with each band member contributing a song or two. 2008’s Dig Out Your Soul features six from Noel that range from the trademark Oasis bombast of “Waiting for the Rapture” to the bluesy kitsch of “Bag It Up” and “(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady,” while his “Soldier On” and guitarist Gem Archer’s “To Be Where There’s Life” do their best to shuttle off into psychedelia with a slight taste of Indian raga shading the Brit-Pop wallop. Liam’s Lennon-like ballad (what would an Oasis album be without some nod towards the Beatles?) “I’m Outta Time” is affecting and for pure classic Oasis, brother Noel’s “The Shock of the Lightning” and “Falling Down” come closest to their wall of sonic bliss. The entire album is produced to loud, numbing effect, the dynamics deliberately sacrificed. Oasis prefer to overwhelm the listener with wave after wave of unrelenting verve and style.

The Hardest Rocking Oasis Album Ever

The only album that really comes close rocking wise is Definitely Maybe. Not to say this album is as good as Definitely Maybe, but its harder rocking. Oasis kicks the album off with a brutal Noel Gallagher riff on Bag It Up. Liam is sneering with an attitude that just wasn't present on Don't Believe the Truth. This is classic Oasis. And it only hints at the highs to come. The Turning keeps the intensity coming, and is a better song than Bag It Up. The first time I heard the chorus I literally stopped what I was doing and said "Holy F***". Oasis fans will be screaming "come on, shake your rag doll baby, before you change your mind" for years to come. A beautiful referrence to Dear Prudence at the end ties it off wonderfully. With Waiting for the Rapture, we get our first Noel sung tune. This may be the most attitude Noel has ever sung with. Normally Noel sings the prettier slower paced songs, and while this isn't a fast song, it is intense. Huge guitar sound throughout. The lead single, The Shock of the Lightining, is just a non-stop freight train of a tune. Huge drum sound propels the tune musically. I don't know that it should have been the lead single, but it's certainly worthy of Oasis single material. I'm Outta Time is just gorgeous. I didn't think Liam would ever surpass Songbird, as far as his songwriting went, but I really think he did here. It sounds pretty Lennonish, but its definitely not in a bad way. The chorus melody is just so beautiful. Liam may have written the best song on the album. I didn't think that would ever happen. This honestly should have been the lead single. (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady is our second Noel sung tune. Its a nice change of pace. Its probably the most Don't Believe The Truth-ish song on the album, but it probably would have been one of the better songs on that album. The song is pretty much just the groove, but its a good groove. This song definitely points out what Noel meant when he said this album was "all about the grooves." Falling Down is another Noel Song, and probably his best vocal performance on this album. It's a haunting song that just explodes at 2:45. Totally riff driven, its infectious. It has an indianish feel, but not in the way that The Hindu Times does, much darker and more intense. To Be Where There's Life keeps the groove up. Its a type of Oasis song I haven't heard before. It reminds me a lot of Kasabian. It also contains the album title lyric. Great ending. Hardcore fans are familiar with Ain't Got Nothin', as it was released as a bootleg from the Don't Believe the Truth sessions. This version is better, but its essentially the same song. The Nature of Reality starts out almost sounding like Helter Skelter, but then quickly changes into its own beast. Noel is just rocking hard and heavy here. Huge drum and guitar sound drives the song. The album closes with Soldier On. Again, guitar, bass and drum grooves drive this song. Its a very good, not quite great, album closer. But it definitely has the feel of an album closer. This album is more groove driven than any Oasis album, and they're great gutiar, bass and drum grooves. Its a brilliantly produced album. As great as the early Oasis albums were, I don't think they were mixed or produced especially well. This is brilliant work from the producer, perhaps the best produced Oasis album. Not a bad tone to be found anywhere on the album. I don't think any of the songs outside of The Turning and I'm Outta Time will approach their classis tunes, but as an ablum this thing works really well. Its perhaps the first Oasis album where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. All in all, this is a fantastic album, worthy of the name Oasis. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Why doesn't america get oasis.I'm from america and every since i heard defintley maybe i've loved oasis and have bought all their cds. They are the best band right now and this album proves how good they still are. To the idiot who said they're a one hit wonder your obvisouly don't know what your talking about. Oasis had multiple hits in america with wonderwall don't look back in anger and champagne supernova. They were once the biggest band in the world and have always been the biggest band in england. This album shows the hardier side of oasis which i perfer and is know doubt the best album of this year. Whoever said that paul and ringo should sue the beatles knows nothing about music. Every single band sounds like some other, because every band is influenced by one another. For oasis its the beatles and they love do make similar music and put title of beatle songs in them too. I know for a fact the paul McCartney love don't believe the truth. Every rock fan in america should buy this album and start listening to england where just about every show there sells out. Oasis is back and gone back to a harder side like with defintley maybe, be here know, and the masterplan. EVERYONE BUY THIS ALBUM

Oasis delivers their best in a Decade!

What’s can I say? The album’s just great. Don’t you dare download just a few songs. The WHOLE album is awesome.
