iTunes Editors’ Notes

“Take your time, so they say, and that’s probably the best way to be,” Kurt Vile mumbles on “Too Hard,” one of the more atmospheric tracks on Walking on a Pretty Daze. Following his own advice, he meanders without losing focus across these 11 stellar songs. His textured and spacious sound highlights the interplay between melodic, fingerpicked acoustic passages and warm electric tones, his solos gently expanding and contracting. “Shame Chamber” is catchy and relatively compact at just less than five minutes, while several standout tracks roam between eight and 10 minutes. The long form suits him, as “Walking on a Pretty Day” and “Goldtone” attest. Vile drops pearls of wisdom and sly quips patiently as if he needs extra time to work out what he wants to say. Such wandering makes multiple listens even more rewarding, and his ability to keep listeners engaged testifies to his singular brilliance. Don’t let the slackerish delivery fool you; this introvert has plenty to say. “I might be adrift, but I’m still alert,” as he puts it. He’s a loner, but a relatable one, and on his fifth solo release in six years he continues to craft a musical universe all his own.

Most anticipated

Kurt Vile is one of those artists that you are proud to listen to, knowing that he is purely and truly original. Admittedly, I did not become a true fan until mid-2011, but thankfully, I heard Constant Hitmaker first, then the rest of his albums in succession, giving me as similar an experience as his other true fans experienced as they followed his career. Now I am up to date, have seen him play live at Maxwell's in NJ and opening for Dinosaur Jr, and am very much looking forward to the new album coming in April 2013, in addition to 3 live east coast shows in May. This 9-minute ditty goes by so fast and makes you realize how talented Kurt really is, bringing you in and making you get lost, willfully, in this song, both musically and lyrically. Enjoy, and see him live if you get the chance.

Def his best work yet

The Summer of 2013 Album

This is the album to listen to when you want to chill out and have a few beers with friends. It makes you feel relaxed and calm when you listen to it. This is Kurt Vile's best album yet and his songwriting on here is top notch. If you like quality rock and roll that has a 60s vintage rock vibe to it then this album is for you. Kurt seems like a really nice guy and he shared this masterpiece with us all. Buy it!
