It’s time to discuss the next round of prizewinners gain. Hardly has the usual flurry of excitement in the run-up to the Frankfurt Book Fair and the German Book Prize award to Frank Witzel subsided when the shortlist has been published for the next round of prizewinners to be announced at the Leipzig Book Fair on 17 March. Manchmal ermüde ich mit einem Mal. Da springe ich aus dem Bett, nehme eine erquickende Wechseldusche, trinke einen Schluck Zitronensaft pur, dann tiefschwarzen Kaffee und scheine energieladen für den jungen Tag. Bis ich – ein wenig ängstlich schon – die Feuilletonseiten deutscher Tages- und Wochenzeitungen aufschlage und jählings damit konfrontiert werde, dass schon wieder über irgendetwas debattiert, dass schon wieder eine Sau durchs Dorf getrieben wird. Sofort erschlaffen meine Glieder, falle ich in mich zusammen, und mein Haupt senkt sich über jene Blätter, die für meinen Kummer sorgen.
