Why!!!????

The United Kingdom iTunes has so much more aphex twin, but you can't buy it with a U.S. iTunes account. Why can't they have all of it in the U.S. store?

One of the best examples of avant-gardism in music today

This album is best described as being a work of art rather than being what some fans consider a poorly associated quilt of leftover and unreleased tracks from Richard D. James' hardrive. It is by no means accessible to non-Aphex Twin fans as well as those who are fans of his older ambient work, because it is so abstarcted and different from his other pieces. I came across this album a few years ago when it had just been released, and I vought it mainly in the grounds that it contained the most material out of any of his albums and appeared tangible on the select few thirty second long clips on the Barnes and Noble Sampler. It has taken me years to fully appreciate this album, as it has many twists and turns that have to be evauluated and respected as intention creative choices as opposed to the supposed hodge podge of musical styles. Prepared Piano is employed in the opening Jynweythek Ylow, as well as Kladfvgbung Micshk, Father, and many others. Vordhosbn (Sailboat in Cornish, the eradicated language James used to title many of the tracks on this album) is an electronic landscape of waves while CockVer10 is a striking audio track that continously changes physical form and viscosity according to it's own acidic logic. Avril 14, another piano track, is a short but wonderful piece off of the album, followed by Mt. St. Michel Mix, a lengthy tribute to the sister coastal islands of Cornwall and Normandy, that erupts into a signature Aphex Twin mash of speedy beats and transfroms into a softly synthesized lullaby of sorts. Other notable tracks are Taking Control, Meltphace 6, and Afx237 V7, featured in Chris Cunnigham's short film 'Rubber Johnny.' As I said, this album can appear very inaccessible at certain points in it's entirety, but download it, enjoy what you can and revisit it when you can, because many of the tracks will eventually grow on you. The collection is definetly worth it.

Taking Control

This is the definitive Aphex Twin album. Richard D. James has proven to be in control of every step, shape and sound of his music. It took me about 6 months to truly appreciate this work, and lurking under the surface of the loud, dissonance, and confusing drum n bass tracks is a master work. Piano pieces are scattered through the album expressing a wide variety of emotional and tonal control. But don't worry they are definitely enough IDM tracks to make you move your feet and lose your mind. If you're looking for a great album to get to know & discover a new way to experience music you're money would be well spent on this amazing album.

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Exploring the experimental possibilities inherent in acid and ambience, the two major influences on home-listening techno during the late '80s, Richard D. James' recordings as Aphex Twin brought him more critical praise than any other electronic artist. Though his first major single, "Didgeridoo," was a piece of acid thrash designed to tire dancers during his DJ sets, ambient stylists and critics later took him under their wing for Selected Ambient Works 85-92, a sublime touchstone in the field of...
